I think I know what you mean. Unfortunately, when I ask about it at the stores, they have me listen to stuff that isn't at all what I remember hearing the first time. I'm hearing that it's a pretty broad term.
From the description you gave, I'd say that as far as secular goes, "Incognito" might be what you're thinking of. Their album "Positivity" was probably their best. As far as Christian, I don't think there's anything in that vein yet. But if you like soft R&B, Anointed has some excellent stuff. You might have to go straight R&B to get anything close that you would enjoy. But you're going to have to be patient and really look. You won't get albums that have everything great. Maybe a couple songs per album - so get a burner and start collecting.
Also, being 38 years old and knowing that there isn't as much of a great selection of this stuff in the Christian world as in the secular (and I hardly ever listen to secular any more), I would consider looking to all decades for the music (since the 70's), not just the past 10 years. Some of the BEST R&B/pop/gospel is *hands-down* the Winans. And luckily they have tons of great albums. Philip Bailey's Best of... was good (he was from Earth, Wind, & Fire then became a Christian and put out some good stuff in the 80's). BeBe & CeCe Winans "Heaven", Petra has some soul stirring stuff like "All over me" on the album "More Power to Ya", Keith Green's "Oh God, Our Lord" is bluesy, OH MY! How could I forget Matthew Ward!!! Toward Eternity has some Stevie Wonder-style stuff on there, and then the 2nd Chapter of Acts "20" 2-CD set has a lot of his stuff on there too. He has one of the best voices in the industry. Even Tremaine Hawkins "The Search is Over", Steve Arrington's "In the Key of Life" were great dance songs "back in the day"
You might want to really consider Newsboys (from Australia). I know they aren't jazz, but they have a really wide range and their message is SOOOoo strong that they got me to even like their few hard rock songs (I hate hard rock, but now I like these songs more than the R&B/dance tunes that first attracted me to them). "Love, Liberty, Disco" and "Take me to your Leader" are albums I would recommend. They have a fantastic mix of alternative, dance, disco, pop, punk - all in one song. Interesting style. They have a bluesy song called "Everybody's Someone".
I'm sorry to have to give you onsey-twosey songs. Hopefully this helps give you some selection of interesting stuff to listen to. Alas, I wish there were Christian "Incognito"s out there, but...
