Psalms 119:
67 Before I was afflicted I went astray:
but now I have kept thy word.
71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted;
that I might learn thy statutes.
We can see these principles from the Anointing played out
in the narrative concerning King Hezekiah. He was informed
by the prophet Isaiah that his illness would be to death.
After prayers and supplications, he receives word that the
Lord has repented and granted him fifteen more years.
In response to this blessed report, he composes a song
to mark the revelation he recieves by the incident.
Isaiah 38:9-20.
15 What shall I say? He has both spoken unto me,
and by Himself has done it:
I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul.
16 O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these
things is the life of my spirit: so wilt thou recover me,
and make me live.
17 Behold, for peace I had great bitterness:
but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it
from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast
all my sins behind thy back. (both deliverance and forgiveness)
18 For the grave cannot praise thee, death cannot celebrate thee:
they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.
19 The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day:
the father to the children shall make known thy truth. (memorial)
20 The Lord was ready to save me:
therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments
all the days of our life in the house of the Lord.
The apostle Paul, under the same Anointing, declares the work
of the Holy Spirit by the same means, and expands our comprehension.
2 Corinthians 1:
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
4 who comforts us in all our tribulation,
that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble,
with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ.
6 Now if we are afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation,
which is effective for enduring the same sufferings which we also suffer.
Or if we are comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.
7 And our hope for you is steadfast, because we know that as you are partakers of the sufferings, so also of the consolation.
This prepares our hearts to minister to others, even as
our flesh is crucified to die to sin.
1 Peter 4:
1 Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh,
arm yourselves also with the same mind,
for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,
2 that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh
for the lusts of men, but for the will of God
