  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

She had no source for her claims and the wiki (which is heavily sourced in this case) makes no mention of several of her statements. But I do agree with several of her points and the fact that the definition is flawed.
Fair enough -- thanks for reading it.

I don't care what changed about it.

If it is no big deal, then why all the hullabaloo behind closed doors, and state legislatures trying to get Pluto reinstated, etc.?

Because of people like you who don't understand what actually happened.

State legislatures do a lot of stupid things. Especially since they have better things to do with their time, and for the public they are supposed to serve.

State legislatures do a lot of stupid things.
Again, if it is no big deal, then what prompted state legislatures to 'do stupid things' and, more importantly, why was this done behind closed doors?

And besides, even if it wasn't done behind closed doors -- why the vote?

After all, if it is so cut-and-dry, there should be no need to vote, eh?

Well it wasn't so cut and dry and still won't be for a while.

But I don't get the claims of behind closed doors when it went to a general vote.

State legislatures do what they think is popular (most of the time) and people seeing the state legislatures standing up to those evil people called scientists can lead to support especially in America.

HUH?? How did you come by that conclusion? Are you going to just parrot what other people post from now on?

Oh, you recognize that line.. right out of the manual. When a point needs to be made, I'll do it. You guys are always asking for evidence and I've been told if I would ask for specific evidence you'd be happy to give it to me. Well, I asked and you didn't give me any. So I used a line right out of you guys' manual. Now where's the evidence??

Well, isn't that cute -- you guys are so lost about how to investigate something, you can't even object originally.

Face it -- without us to imitate, you folks would be completely helpless.

nar·cis·sism

–noun
1. inordinate fascination with oneself; excessive self-love; vanity.

2. Psychoanalysis . erotic gratification derived from admiration of one's own physical or mental attributes, being a normal condition at the infantile level of personality development.

Another issue in Scienceville. Perhaps a little advice from the quotes in my signature would help.

What do you want, Inan? A synopsis of Mesopotamian, Egyptian and Chinese history?

Fine here's a timeline: http://chaos1.hypermart.net/fullsize/ancivfs.gif

Here's a history of Mesopotamia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Mesopotamia

Here's a history of the Indus Valley (Harappa) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indus_Valley_Civilization

And one for China: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_China

Maybe because politicians is dumb?

It was hardly "cut and dry." I doubt there are very many astronomers who think the new definition is without flaws.

Thanks Split Rock. Now don't get mad at me but I don't always trust everything I read in wikipedia. I guess it's just my FREE THINKING... Not saying that there is anything wrong with these but I always do more searching along with wiki-p. I appreciate your intent though. They will be rightly placed within my Favorites to refer to.

could you at least give us ALL the data that supports that there is no evidence of a flood in ALL the world.
That would be a huge amount of data. Perhaps the whole library of some universities would provide plenty of evidence that there was no "world wide flood". Of course now a days a truck load of data could be put on the head of a pin, so maybe it would not be that difficult to deliver.

Adam and Eve lived 6000 years ago, they were Hebrew and they were food producers. Before Adam and Eve were what science calls food gathers. The dogs were more for hunting and less for hurding animals.

The evidence just does not point to everyone alive today being a decendant of Adam and Eve. It's a nice theory, but the evidence does not back up that interpretation of the Bible.

That does not negate Bishop Usshers work. His book is still a classic. His book only covers the last 6,000 years of history and he just does not talk about what was here before Adam and Eve and the Garden in Eden.

Great -- now don't forget to apply that same FREE THINKING across the board; even things you want to be true should get the once-over -- preferably twice.
