  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Isn't this forum widows AND widowers?

Marital Status

I felt the opposite. Having difficulties does not mean you are not saved. I found it sad and insulting for them to assume that because I was sad, lost without my husband, and sort of treading water in this world meant that I didn't have a relationship with God. The only reason I was still standing after my hubby died IS because of that relationship with God.

Maybe it will be different for our new friend...especially if he has been out of touch with God during this time. I also found it difficult that so many people at church expected me to "help myself" when I was drowning in grief. There really is no verse that say that God helps those who help themselves. He promises to be there when we cry out in desperation. That I did find to be true though.
