Unfortunately many of us say we worship God forreal, yet really don't have a full understanding of what it means to worship God forreal...
It would be very hard, probably impossible to worship God without a comprhension of what worship is. Worship is a type of humble submission; an attitude of deep respect for the superior (GOD). Worship is something joyful, for the enjoyment for God Himself (Psalm 89.15-16, Luke 1.46-47, 1 Peter 1.8).
Worship is the act by which we praise God, recognize Him as God, and accept His gifts to us in the Bible and the Sacrements that He uses to give us forgiveness. WORSHIP IS NOT EMOTIONALLY DRIVEN, BUT WE MAY BE EMOTIONALLY UPLIFTED! True worship is a lifestyle of heartfelt expression of love and devotion and passion for God and Jesus!
Romans 12.1-2 teaches us that worship is a lifestyle. It is a response to God... our motivation for a lifestyle of worship is God's love... His merciful love! It is to be a sacrificial offering. Unfortunately, when we think of a sacrifice, we think of something given up at a great personal loss... however, according to the word of God, this sacrifice is simply giving back to God what is already His.
There are three aspects of our sacrificial lifestyle:
1. We are a living sacrifice... This is the expression of the life of Christ, the resurrection life of Jesus Christ that is expressed through our physical life... According to Galatians 2.20 and Romans 6.13, we live in our physical bodies with its limitations, but also express spiritual life because of what Jesus has done on our behalf.
2. We are to be a Holy sacrifice... We are dedicated completely for God's ownership; we are to be set apart for specific purposes.
3. We are an acceptable or pleasing sacrifice... An acceptable life for God is a life that is totally His... One that is filled with the Life of Jesus. In Hebrews 13.21, God calls us to present ourselves to Him, and He'll take us, equip us, train us, and make us completely adequate to live the kind of life He wants us to live.
The essence of our lifestly is a spritual reality, which is our spiritual worship... The spiritual worship of presenting our bodies to God as instruments of righteousness means we are affected physically (ie... our feets consistently walk in His ways, our mouths tell the Truth, our hands serve, our eyes are focused on God, etc.)
It is not enough to just sing a song and say we are worshipping God and that's it... we must walk and live in our worship (and praise)!!
