Since we started ours, the church is a much better, more productive place for ministry. Those involved in the groups are a lot more active in the day to day functions of the church than they used to be. They are also walking a closer walk with with Him.

I've been around along time and have seen this by many names. The only wisdom I have to share is to watch out for power and control. No one as the right to tell you to do this or that to stay in a group. Jesus is the answer to all things.
enoch son,

I think you may have misunderstood what a cell group is? It's basically a Home Bible Study/Fellowship. At least that's my understanding. It's not the types of groups that came out in the 70's where they were telling people how and what and when they could do things. J

:) Just wanted to let you know. . .it sounded like you thought that's what a cell group is.

When I was in Vineyard we called them Kinships. I absolutely loved it. In fact it was through a Kinship that I got involved in Vineyard (long but good story). And just like Anthony described his we were family. We laughed together and cried together and grew and changed together.

There is a Bible study I go to in my church and it's good but it's not as much fellowship. I miss that very much.

enoch son, are you against Bible Study's? I think what most have described here is not at all a bad thing.

Our church has cell groups. I refer to ours as a bible study or home group. This past week we met on Tuesday night. It was awesome.
The day previous I felt the Lord calling me to serve, serve, humble myself and serve. I had an idea to take the example of Jesus and wash my brothers and sisters feet. People are funny about thier feet sometimes so I thought it would be more appropriate to use hand lotion on their hands. I asked my husband to attend the men, while I attended to the ladies. He agreed. We read the scripture passage before we started. John chapter 13, is where it is incase you want to read it for yourself. Then we took communion together. It was an blessed evening spent with my brothers and sisters.

We are a new church (a little over a year old) and started with Friendship Groups almost from the start. In fact we started as a Small Group! We are Vineyard and it was encouraged by our sending church. We have chosen the name “Friendship” instead of “Kinship” because we want to emphasize the importance of bonding as friends as we build community. We have two five month sessions per year with a month of to regroup, reshuffle, and launch new groups (we call them Gigs – Groups investigating God.) This session we have six groups that emphasize a different subject – one is investigating The Purpose-Driven Life, another is a musician’s praise jam, there is one viewing prophecy tapes, one studying the Lord’s prayer, a college Gig, and a ladies luncheon Gig. They are working well, some better than others, but too few of our fellowship attending (of course, my expectations may be a bit high).

Anyhow, groups are working well for us as we continue to tweak our Friendship Gigs.

our church followes the cell model as put forth by Ralph Neighbour. we are not a home group/bible study... in cell we commit to being there for one another, supporting and praying for each other, we become family.... we generally do not have the same cell group for many years, they shift and change... about a year ago our church went from intergenerational cells to age-group cells, and while i miss the close interaction with people older/younger than me, i love how i have become close with other people my own age... we also disciple one another ("sponsor" or "mentor"), and commit to coming ever week... but it is a personal covanent with the Lord, not any leader of the cell or church... there is no controlling spirit. it is lovely.
