Is this significant?

Perhaps the bible had previously been looked through in the shop? If that person opened it in one place and read for a moment that may well cause it to tend to open more readily at that place again.

It won't do you any harm to read and pray about the passage for a while, but don't let this stop you from exploring and enjoying the rest of your lovely new bible with all it has to offer!

(Luke 20:1-7) Now it happened on one of those days, as He taught the people in the temple and preached the gospel, that the chief priests and the scribes, together with the elders, confronted Him and spoke to Him, saying, "Tell us, by what authority are You doing these things? Or who is he who gave You this authority?" But He answered and said to them, "I also will ask you one thing, and answer Me: The baptism of John; was it from heaven or from men?" And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say, 'Why then did you not believe him?' But if we say, 'From men,' all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet." So they answered that they did not know where it was from.

It's significant. Just as the Pharisees refused the baptism of John, most who claim to be Christians today refuse the baptism of Christ. "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven" says Peter, but the so-called "Christian" today says "no, Peter, my sins were forgiven long before baptism." (acts 2:38) Thus, many who claim to be Christians today are not, because they have refused the Lord's baptism, in which sins are forgiven, presumptuously thinking their sins are already forgiven. Likewise, Paul says "you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, because as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ" but the so-called "Christian" of today says "no, Paul, I was a son of God long before baptism." (gal 3:26-27) Thus, many who claim to be Christians today are not, because they have refused the Lord's baptism, in which believers become sons of God, presumptuously thinking they are already sons of God.

There is "nothing" to it... flipping the Bible at random chance is not the way to receive a revelation from God...

In fact there is a joke about that type of revelation...


Someone was asking for a revelation from God, and they flipped their Bible open and pointed a verse...

The verse said,

And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.

and the person, said, "Lord, you surely can't mean for me to kill myself"... so he flipped the pages again, and the book opened to...


Thy word is true from the beginning:

But the man still wasn't convinced that he should kill himself, so he flipped the pages one more time and pointed to the first verse that he saw...
