Is this normal or not?

Hello again,
Is it normal to go through a "dry period" during your walk with God. I have been a christian for almost 2 years, and I don't feel that excitement like I did in the beginning. For some reason I haven't been interested in reading the bible lately but I do read other christian books and sermons. I don't really think I am back sliding, I still talk to God alot and praise him and thank him so much for what he has done for me. It just seems like I don't have the "thirst" that I once had. I am a christian who believes that once saved, always saved, we are sealed. He doesn't play games and take it back and give it again, and anyway we can't earn it. BUT, I can't understand why I am going through this. I even tell God I don't know, but I ask that I have that "want" in my heart again. Guess it's a blah period. Anyone get like this?

Hey there. Im still a new christian so I guess I havent hit that "dry" spell, if there is such a thing. One thing that concerned me in your post was "once saved, always saved, we are sealed. He doesn't play games and take it back and give it again......"

Hebrews 10:26-29:
26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. 28 Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?

God does not force His will on us. If one is truly "born again" by having the Lord Jesus Christ in their heart, they are sealed by the Spirit forever. One cannot become unborn, but one can become cold in their heart toward the Savior.

Read the Word daily, talk to the Lord Jesus all day, and honor God in all your walk and conversation. One can have as much of Christ as they want, and our life shows how much we want. Look up always!

Jack, that verse is true, and we should understand that if one is only a professor of Christ and not a possessor, they will soon fall away to "a fearful expectation of judgment" as the Word shows. We must not "trample" underfoot the truth, but receive it sincerely. There are a lot of professing Christians in the world who are not "born again", and go on with a false sense of security.

ok, whoa. lol
I didn't say that I am falling away from the gospel, abandoning all truths and deliberately going out and sinning. I love my Father, he is the only one that truly understands, the only one that truly loves me and who is always there no matter what. I don't know why I feel blah. Maybe it's because I just recently quit my job because of my chronic fibromyalgia, and maybe because my family, hubby and two teens, don't want to talk about God and not share the thankfullness and love for him like I do, maybe it's because I hate sin, I hate whats going on in this world today, I hate when atheists bash God and make fun of him, and everytime I turn around someone wants to take our rights away. I know when I was saved my eyes were open to a different world, a world that I don't like. And no I'm not a people hater, just hate the sin and all its' filthiness. Ok, I went off on a deep end, and deep subject, lol. The place of this world does get me down though, and I guess all these other things just pile on top. Ya know maybe since I am a new christian and I am now learning and seeing the truth and what's really going on, maybe this is a adjustment or reaction that I am going through and hopefully soon come out of. We all go through mountains and valleys on our walk with God, but he continues work in us until the end, and it's a process. I just wanted to know if anyone else has been through this or not. I'm sure I can't be the only one. I don't think I have a false sense of security either, I know my heart has changed since I have been saved and I am so thankful that God did allow things to happen in my life to bring me to him.
OH well, I could go on, haha, feeling a little chatty this morning.

That is normal, at least you're not back sliding. Continue to immerse yourself in the bible, pray and speak to him daily. Pray that he can fill your heart with renewed energy for him.
Life can bring you down, but don't let that interfere with your relationship with God. Keep at it!

LittleK. Hey, no offense to what I was saying. I guess I was stuck on that line you wrote about being saved, always saved.

Maybe you should pray to God and ask Him about it. Maybe try becoming closer to God. Im not in this stage so Im going to be no help.

Just wanted to apologize about "coming at you". Just didnt fully agree with that statement.

Thanks,
Jack

Jack,
That's ok, none taken. I guess everyone has their own opinion and beliefs. Maybe I am listening to false information, but I thought we were sealed until the returning of Jesus. That's what is so confusing to me, so many sermons and this is right, this is wrong and so many people interpret the same verse in so many ways.

Oh I totally agree..... It is very frustrating. I pray to God and he allows me to understand alot of things. My problem is remembering, but it takes time.

What I was saying to you is, If your saved, then fall away from Christ, and rebuke Him and believe no more, then I dont believe that person is going to Heaven. I know some people have told me to ask Jesus in your heart, then your saved no matter what you do.
I just dont believe that statement.

I could see if someone fell away and turned totally against God and rebuked him, but then again I can't be the judge of that. Also if Jesus said, I can't remember all of the verse, but something about all that the Father gives me, and no one can snatch them from my hand. My memory is bad, haha.

We should expect cycles and seasons in our walk. The fire that a person feels at first is not sustainable. There will be ups and downs, but your relationship can still deepen over time. Much like a marriage. You said that you aren't as interested in reading the Bible, but you are listening to sermons. Most sermons and devotionals are based around studying scripture anyway, so you are still getting regular exposure. We should not be legalistic about reading x number of chapters per day. Mixing it up is a good practice.

Peripatetic,
I love reading devotionals, and other peoples christian advice and what they have learned and been through. Here lately I have not been praying out loud, rather I have been talking alot to God silently, I just feel so at ease knowing that I can communicate this way and be able to talk to him even when Im out and about. I also love to write prayers or just write to him about how I feel and what's going on in my head. Sometimes I don't know what to say and writing or typing it out on my computer just flows. God is 95% on my mind all the time, but for some reason just feel out of wack right now.
thanks for your advice

It sounds like you might be looking at this too much like a formula. One of the best discoveries that a mature Christian can make is the freedom it gives us. We don't have to pray a certain amount, or read a certain amount of chapters, or pray out loud, or perform xyz ritual. You shouldn't try to have God on your mind 95% of the time. The key is to stay close to God, and grow your wisdom through scripture. You are doing those things! My guess is that the "out of whack" feeling is the wordly presence of condemnation trying to creep in. You are doing so well that the only way to get you off track is to convince you otherwise. Don't let those lies get to you.

Peripatetic,
Thank you so much for your advise. Yes, I do think something tries to creep in and tell me different, I can hear a fight in my head sometimes..lol. And saying God is on my mind 95% of the time, it's not that I am trying really hard to put him there, lol, he is just there. Everytime I look around and see his creation, hes there, when I am thankful for being blessed he is there, I guess he feels like a best friend.

cmjames24,
Thank you for your prayer and thoughtfulness, and yes I need to keep reading and praying.

Why would you need a bible? It's just a book. Jesus didn't have one, Paul didn't have one. Not once disciple or apostle did. More than that most of the bible is full of rules that were put to rest when Jesus came along. (Don't do this or that on the Sabbath). God is love so be be near to God, keep love in your heart. That's all you need and it's worth an infinity of bibles. Jesus was the lamb slain from the foundation of the world. The savior of all men, so of course you will get there in the end. But why run from love? I don't think it's love (God) your running from, I think it's the establishment...The 'reLIEgion' side of it your fed up of...The endless debates, the bickering and squabbles. Jesus couldn't be bothered with it either. Keep the inside of the cup clean.

Yes, I know I am fed up with that. It's amazing when you are saved and finally not blind to what is going on you get a really different view of how things are working and why they are. It seems like everything else doesn't matter that did before. I would say it is hard living in a world you don't like, but I know it was not going to be easy, even Jesus said so. I am just thankful so much of what he does bless me with. I guess I need to not let it get me down, just keep my head up and eyes on Jesus, and keep praying.
