  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

...it must be deeply wounding to see things like this happening in the Church you love.
St. Paul said there would be wolves amongst the sheep. St. John spoke of the anti-Christ's who would mingle amongst us. That stuff like this occurs is, in my opinion, expected. The Church has always been assaulted, both from within and without.

that's some kookery, for sure. however, it does remind me of something rather similar in college at the newman ctr. i remember that there a very early distribution of ashes only from the priest, and there were a series of masses later on in the afternoon when students didn't have classes. pretty much everyone i knew went and received the "drive thru ashing" (dreadful phrase) on their way to first class, but then all returned for a full mass around noon. then again, it seems at times that such things at non-catholic colleges seem to be a bit looser. then again, the newman ctr. was so small that we held mass in the local lutheran chuch on sunday night. i guess thats good simply due to the fact that so many folks wanted to go.

anyhoo, a bit OT i know...

"Better that only a few Catholics should be left, staunch and sincere in their religion, than that they should, remaining many, desire as it were, to be in collusion with the Church's enemies and in conformity with the open foes of our faith."

–St. Peter Canisius (1521-1597)

A tree branch replacing the cross? *blinks* I've heard of crosses made of treebranches. I've heard of treebranches being used in lenten decorations. I've never heard of the cross being replaced (even the idea alone!) by treebranches.

Have to disagree with a few things in the article though. About the feminisation of church... women have their own, proper, and to be respected places in church. It's not a feminisation that's the problem, I think. It's a simple lack of respect and education.

How frightening...

The words "defrocked, deflocked, removed from the mailing list, and their parking spaces reassigned" come to mind (with apologies to The Onion Dome).
