No one has the ability to come to Him without being drawn by the Spirit.

`Let not your heart be troubled, believe in God, also in me believe; in the house of my Father are many mansions; and if not, I would have told you; I go on to prepare a place for you; and if I go on and prepare for you a place, again do I come, and will receive you unto myself, that where I am ye also may be; and whither I go away ye have known, and the way ye have known.' Thomas saith to him, `Sir, we have not known whither thou goest away, and how are we able to know the way?'Jesus saith to him, `I am the way, and the truth, and the life, no one doth come unto the Father, if not through me;"(John 14:1-6 YLT)

Any teaching that states people can come to God without being drawn, is heretical to the very core.


Now, in regards to repentance, is not repentance itself a gift of God? The bible states it is.

"Therefore, thou art inexcusable, O man -- every one who is judging -- for in that in which thou dost judge the other, thyself thou dost condemn, for the same things thou dost practise who art judging, and we have known that the judgment of God is according to truth, upon those practising such things. And dost thou think this, O man, who art judging those who such things are practising, and art doing them, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? or the riches of His goodness, and forbearance, and long-suffering, dost thou despise? -- not knowing that the goodness of God doth lead thee to reformation!"(Romans 2:1-4 YLT)

The Young's Literal Translation...YLT...uses reform instead of repent, and reformation instead of repentance. But even the ability to repent/reform is a gift, a work of God....


I'll leave you with one more verse...

John 6:29 Jesus answered and said to them, `This is the work of God, that ye may believe in him whom He did send.'

Thank You very much for the selected quotes convicted1.

I consider myself a seed which fell by the wayside without understanding and fell back to my old ways. And after 10 years of this I have an overpowering desire of repentance and to actually read the bible and walk as the book says. I have this feeling that no matter how I feel in my heart that this is the only way and to just trust the Lord.

I have much understanding yet to learn but thanks again.

p.s. I would assume that nobody would have a desire to repent if it weren't for the Holy Ghost?

The unregenerate have the notion of "we will not have this man over us"(Luke 19:14). They...the unregenerate, have no desire to come to Him, seeing they don't truly think a "God of love" would ever turn them into the flames. They donate money, time, visit people, much like the Ellen's, Oprah's, and other celebs. They're relying upon themselves, and they are fallen, sinful creatures. God must overcome these obstacles in their lives first. He does this by regeneration...regenerating His lost sheep. They then have new eyes to see how ruined they are. They have a new heart that yearns for Him. They have new ears to hear with.

We all would do just that. We who would encourage you in what is right are conscience of the infirmity of the human flesh, and the inability in ourselves. All the sincere followers of God would seek to help with an understanding of their own need before the LORD. All sins have been covered by Christ's shed blood...past, present, AND future. If someone lives another 20 years from now, their future sins are already covered. Yet, that doesn't negate our responsibilty to repent of our sins we commit.

Actually, I can say. If his confession of Christ as Savior and Lord was true and acceptable to God, he forfeits nothing when he sins, other than his dignity as a Christian and the full realization of the power that is his in Christ.

The only thing "dire" around here is people who think salvation is theirs to acquire or lose. You had nothing to do with "getting saved," and you can't do anything to "get unsaved." Otherwise, Christ is a terribly weak Savior.

This sounds like maybe its a confusion sown by people i see all over this website. They seem to suggest that its sinful to use our own effort to obey God, but the truth is much simpler, we either obey Him or not, there is no in between. However much can be said about our motivation. If we obey in order to please men and to gain their praise then this is wrong, our motivation should be to please God.

I'm not a baptist, so if anyone disagrees then please accept my apologies, im not a teacher.
