Recently there have been a few threads asking if forgiveness or repentance is necessary for salvation and various response have been given.
I had done a brief study of salvation for a sketch I was working on and I to at some point would have said these things could possibly be necessary for Salvation.
Then after reading through some of the threads posted on here I started wondering about how acurate this idea of salvation was that I had percieved.
It was then that I believe God opened my heart to this one fundemental truth that seems to be getting confused on this forum - Salvation is not being saved, Same as being born is not Living.
So, what do I mean, Paul clearly tells us in Phil 2:12
Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed - not only in my presence, but much more in my absence - continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling.
It would apear then that Salvation is not a one time only event but something which will continue throughout our lifetime here on earth.
So, how are we saved, Jesus in talking with Nicodemus tells us in John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Therefore to be saved or born again is simply a matter of Believing in Jesus.
So then what about Salvation, Yes I do believe that salvation does require the forgiveness of others, the repentance of sins etc. but that does not make us Saved, only believing in Jesus can do that, I believe that when Paul talks of working through your salvation with fear and trembling he is implying that if we truely Believe in Jesus and what he has done for us on the cross then these additional things will come fairly naturally if not maybe we need to Examine ourselves.
thats my thoughts on the subject.
Hearty
