Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Is the world as it is identical to the world as it should be?

I see three possible responses:
1. Yes
2. No
3. There is no "world as it should be"

How do you respond and why?

There is no 'world as it should be' in a cosmic sense.

There is the way that the world is, and then there's the way that we (individually or collectively) want it to be. Many describe this desire as a 'should'--people 'should' be treated fairly, children 'should' have health care and education--but what they really mean is, 'I want people to be treated fairly in this world, I want children to be healthy and educated'. 'Should' is just a faster and more emphatic, if not more accurate, way to express it.

So there are as many ways the world 'should' be as there are people (and possibly animals) to want it that way.

Is the world as it is identical to the world as it should be?
"As it should be" in the sense of "as I wish it were" or in the sense of "as it was intended to be"?
My answer to the first question is "no", the second question implies a premise that´s not part of my world view.

Is the world as it is identical to the world as it should be?

I'm not quite certain what you are asking.

Are you asking me if I think that every single individual who has ever existed has been acting in such a way that I personal judge as virtuous, leading to a theoretically optimal world? The answer to that question is no.

However, there is plenty of good in the world. I don't think that it is all bad.

You've answered your own question. According to you, the world should be full of fully actualized individuals. This would be a world "as it should be". Some think that the world "as it should be" does not include human beings!

This is exactly the creation that God chose to create.

The measure of a novel work is how well it fulfills its author's intent.
The fairness between, or imperfections of, creatures and characters are no good measure of a novel work.

God cannot create something that does not change.
That would be tantamount to creating another God, which is nonsense.
Therefore, the best creation possible is the one we actually have.
This is a creation that will forever be changing toward God, a creation being saved, being redeemed.

God made His creation "good". God made Adam and Eve "very good",
but they had to change.
A creation that changes to be more and more like God is the best creation possible because an unchanging creation is not possible.

I would say 3. There is no "world as it should be".

The first reason being - everyone has a different concept of what the world should be like based on our own reality, concepts, values, morals, etc.
The second being - the world is constantly changing and so are peoples views of what the world should be like due to life experiences affecting the first reason.
