Is the purpose of life to spread your DNA far and wide.

There is no official One True Purpose. You make your own. Some of those "purposes" may be immoral, however, because they might hurt other people. Your example might cause suffering if it encourages cheating on your spouse or rape, so it probably wouldn't be a good one to choose.

To have as many babies with as many desirable men or women as possible? Or is it something else?
Are you defining 'purpose' as the reason that life forms replicate/reproduce? If so, that's easy. It's a genetic survival trait. Life forms must replicate in order for species to continue. Our genes drive us to do this. Some species will mate indiscriminately while others will be selective.

To ask if something specific is the purpose of life presupposes that there is only one universal purpose to all life.

The nice point, even ceded by your Christianity as I understand it, is that humanity has reached a point where we have the ability to choose our own meaning of life.

As such, the purpose of my own life has absolutely nothing to do with spreading my DNA far and wide.

It sure isn't the purpose of my life. The purpose of my life is to overcome my many various psychological disorders. Thanks for assuming that I was nothing but a broodmare, though. It really means a lot to me that you see me as nothing but a walking uterus.

Autumnleaf,

Your OP, as I understand it, asks specifically if "the purpose of life" is reproduction. Others here seem to think you're asking about the purpose that individuals have given to their own lives. Would you clear this up for us, please?

Regardless of which he intended, both have already been answered.

Everyone ascribes purpose to their lives -- even those who do not believe in God generally go above the view of hedonism. I am not sure why, exactly, as I would see a certainly frivolous nature to our effort and our struggle if there was nothing at the end of the tunnel but a dead end.

If I did not believe in religion I think hedonism would be one of the only ways to go, really.

Hedonists ascribe purpose to their lives, too.
(And, to get back on topic, this purpose is typically not to spread their DNA as widely as possible.)

Just as I am now, I would be happy to have you living in whatever way you like as long as you harmed no-one else in doing so.
