Is the Pope in "real trouble"? Or just a temporary downturn?

Interesting post recently about 3 bombshell events

A highly placed Vatican source told LifeSiteNews that Cardinal Gerhard Müller, together with his much-experienced three CDF priests, was dismissed by Pope Francis because...

Pope Francis removed sanctions from a notorious clerical sex offender despite being warned and urged by the Prefect for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith not to do so.

Pope Francis gave a Vatican apartment to a priest who was later caught hosting a drug-fueled homosexual orgy in that same apartment despite being warned about the priest’s grave problems

Can he be sacked? I do not believe we know the answer to said question. It is probably not realistic to think that he could be sacked. However, if any Pope either taught what was deemed to be heresy or had such horrific personal behavior that it brought scandal to the Church, then it might be conceivable that an Ecumenical Council could remove him? We simply do not know, as this has never happened.

This is the core issue isn't it?
He cannot be sacked...

Perhaps not, but would his insistence and persistence to remain in office unite or divide Catholics? I am having trouble with picturing myself in mass with a clear conscience and without doubt. Why would he not remove himself so as to remove a stumbling block or for the healthy road to healing of the whole Catholic Church?

Sadly, this is not the first massive problem of sexual abuse and cover-up. It's far past time to do things that will prevent this from continuing or happening again. Remove the wolves from the flock of sheep. Maybe this seems harsh, but I don't think so. Otherwise, I don't think that the church can survive. Yes, this includes the Pope and any other authority figure who didn't do enough to stop this.

I could almost see a second Reformation coming out of the Catholic Church as a result. This should at least give pause as to the justification for the first Reformation. I mean what is a Catholic layman supposed to think or do about the situation? So sorry, this world is so messed up from the inside out. We look on the outside and see one thing, and find out later another is going on inside. Certainly not a Catholic only problem, it's a problem everywhere, and if nothing is done about it, can only add further to the problem. Similar to how I view the problems of the Obama administration FBI. Up until about a year and a half ago, I never questioned the integrity or service of the FBI, I counted incidents as isolated incidents, but that confidence has been shattered. I do not see how my confidence could ever be regained, every ounce of trust has been shredded into bits. It will not matter to me, even Trump administration replacements would offer me no confidence, plenty of mistakes have been made, especially in choosing Jeff Sessions. I do not think my trust in the FBI can be regained, too many variables and unknowns, and mine eyes and ears have been betrayed.

He can't be sacked. No one on earth higher than the Pope. In the past when monarchs ruled Europe they found ways to get rid of a pope they did not like or was a nuisance.

Napoleon's General Berthier had some ideas about that - back in the days of the Holy Roman Empire
