Athene said:NothingButTheBlood, why don't you post a constructive rebuttle instead of having hissy fits.
Do you assume that everything that is said on the internet is about you?
NothingButTheBlood said:If you are going to put down fundies expect someone to rebut. If I am involved in a conversation and say I am fundie and people keep going on about them who am I supposed to think they are referring too? Maybe you should watch what you say about other Christians. Last time I check you were not allowed to talk down about others faith. I guess that's only outside the "liberal" forum.
P.S. Use your ignore list.
flautist said:However, people have been using phrases like "in general" or "most of the fundies I know." So, there is much room for exceptions. Don't take it personally when it's not directed at you. Maybe you are one of the exceptions. Or maybe we are wrong. If you think we are wrong, prove it.
College can be, but it isn't always.o.k. here are my 2 cents worth, thats about all it's worth since i only have a high school education and a baptist one at that. i don't know if i consider myself a fundie or not but i am conservative. idon't believe it takes a college degree to be wise to the world on the contrary i believe it to be a sheltered existence.
Hey me too!i have on the other hand seved in the military and that opened my eyes to the world.
Well He did ask others their opinions, right? On the other hand He was God in human form, so being limited humans we can't know with the same certainty that He had. See?one last comment on intolerence........last time i read the bible JESUS seemed to be not open to other people views as well.
You seem plenty sharp to me and your 2 cents are always welcome!now i know i'm not the sharpest tool in the shed here, but once again it is just my 2 cents
We don't all think fundamentalists are uneducated. I certainly don't and how you apply your faith in Christ to your life is your business and you should not let anyone make you feel in any way uncomfortable with who you are in Christ. I don't personally prescribe to any label or group and occasionally, unfortunately, we come across these patronizing views that suggest that Christians who interpret and view scripture in a different light to perhaps we do are somehow missing the point and/or uneducated. I know Christians who would fall under this so-called definition of a "fundie" and they exhibit a faith which has as much love, compassion, empathy, forgiveness and truth than any other kind of believer I have known. I hope you continue to post here NothingButTheBlood[NothingButTheBlood]Sorry. You can use all the broad terms you want you are still insulting a number of people who post here. I doubt there's much anyone can do to prove a thing to you all. Don't worry I have decided it's degrading to myself to continue to post in this thread. I see no reason to take abuse from those who call themselves Christians.
Waiting for the Verdict said:I've been reading some of Perretti's paranoid stuff, and it made me think about how class effects religous beliefs. I'm not saying all fundies are lower class, or all liberals are upper class, but it does seem that this could be a causal factor for the religous warfare between our two groups. For instance, think of the major liberal congregations....Unitarians, Congregationalists, Quakers, Episcopilians. Most are centered in the east, where the old money is. And generally, rightly or wrongly, they have been associated with old money. Of the evangelical denominations, only the OPC and Presbyterian America churches have that reputation and they are pretty small branches of evangelicalism/. Of course, this breakdown isn't perfect. The United Methodist Church is considered mainline, yet Methodists were historically a poor group.
What do you think? Do you have any stats on this? And if I'm right, what does that imply about how Christianity operates in America. Even if libbers aren't richer, the perception that they are might fuel class warfare between fundies and liberals.
In A Perfect World said:Well, where do Catholics fall? Many Italian, Irish, German, and Hispanics that were Catholic have come here poor as dirt, and now many of them are rich in New England. Many are still poor.
I don't think there is a big distinguishing factor in branches of Christianity. I think it is a geographical difference.
Athene said:I suppose, fundamentalists of the the placard bearing, god hates whoever disagrees with us variety seem to be localised to the USA, in England we still get people who believe everything in the bible (even creation??) but they don't damn me to hell for disagreeing with them. At least not to my face.
newlamb said:99% of the fundies in the USA don't do that either. The broad brush that's been used here is against 1% of the fundies.
