Genesis 1:28

New International Version
God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

Clearly the only authority which mankind was granted was over the Earth.
But we are now talking about terraforming and colonizing Mars and other places.
Are such intentions a sin? If indeed God wanted mankind to reach for other worlds, why make outer space so hostile and the distances so intimidating?

examples:
1. Loss of bone induced by no gravity or lower gravity.
2. Radiation which penetrates a ship's hull and damages brain cells.
3. Flying rocks which might penetrate a ship's hull.
4. Closest star 4 light years away.
5. Planets hostile to human life.

Some might interpreted such things as divinely constructed obstacles to keep us focused here where we are assigned to be.

Honestly I don't think God cares that much, although I do believe that the people at the tower of Babel we're trying to make a rocket ship, or I could be totally wrong. But God didn't confound the language because man sinned but to slow technology down "anything man puts his mind to do he can do" which is where we are today, cloning sheeps, nuclear power, particle accelerators, etc... Too bad man won't make it far in space, the end is coming very soon, we've pretty much destroyed the world.

Well, I guess we disagree about the attempt at making a space ship and God desperately trying to slow mankind down lest they succeed. One reason why I cannot agree with such an intervention is because of the issues that arose in Eden. Instigated by he Devil, Mankind via Adamic rebellion had for all practical purposes issued a challenge to universal sovereignty. God wanted to rule mankind selfishly and retain for himself the privilege of determining right from wrong or good and evil? Wasn't mankind very able to succeed WITHOUT God's guidance? Wasn't God afraid of that success? Didn't God know this and that is why he wanted to keep mankind under his strict control?

Based on that I prefer the view that his intervention was to allow the experiment to continue within fair parameters but to prevent it from reaching a ruinous level before his plan for salvation could be completely worked out.

About God not caring concerning space exploration, please note all the barriers that he placed in our mortal way.

1. The 186,000 mph speed limit.

2. The death dealing radiation

4. The effects of weightlessness on the human body

5. The mind-boggling distances

6. The ridiculous shortness of human lifespan.

7. Micrometeorite dangers

8. Solar Flare dangers or MCE dangers

Shouldn't that be 186,000 miles per second rather than per hour? That's the speed of light.

Absolutely! Thanks for pointing out the typo.

That's approx. 7 1/2 times around the Earth in one second.
Approx four Earth years to get to the nearest star at that velocity.
I say Earth years because the travelers who approximate light speed would experience it as a much shorter time.

"Space colonization"? LOL
You mean one or two tin cans with a few people in it orbiting earth?
Sorry, had to laugh.. :D
Packed like sardines!
Well, NASA is on an extremely limited budget.
What did you expect-the Hilton Hotel with booster rockets attached?

Sheeesh!

BTW
I have always deeply pondered on what would transpire if by any chance a crew-member develops uncontrollable explosive diarrhea and projectile vomiting during one of those stuffed as if in a sardine-can type trips to Mars. :help:

For some I have to definitely say yes as they make Space Exploration their god. Good pondering thought though...and just with that thought in verse, God didn't give us authority over ourselves (especially to subdue what we're not deamed).
Some are saying that the technological ability of mankind to actually terraform other planets at will makes mankind Godlike. Understandable since such a concept was inconceivable not too long ago in human history.

Of course that would still leave us with the extremely low gravity problem which is detrimental to human health.
