• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

1 Corinthians 6

12(T)All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything.
13(U)Food is for the stomach and the stomach is for food, but God will (V)do away with both of them Yet the body is not for immorality, but (W)for the Lord, and (X)the Lord is for the body.

14Now God has not only (Y)raised the Lord, but (Z)will also raise us up through His power.

15(AA)Do you not know that (AB)your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take away the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? (AC)May it never be!

16Or (AD)do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, "(AE)THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH."

17But the one who joins himself to the Lord is (AF)one spirit with Him.

18(AG)Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.

19Or (AH)do you not know that (AI)your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that (AJ)you are not your own? 20For (AK)you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in (AL)your body.

The bible does not say, thou shalt not smoke.

But in my opinion the only one that should have that kind of power over your life is God.

Its kinda like the love of money. Jesus had a rich man come to him and ask him what he must do to be perfect. And Jesus said to sell all that he had, give it to the poor and follow him.

The rich man couldnt do it. His love for money was too great. For me, in my thinking cigarettes are the same. If Jesus asked you to give up cigarettes and follow him, could you do it?

It is the same unseen battle we are fighting.

I dont believe smoking is a sin. I believe placing cigarettes/smoking above God, that is a sin.

We all know the harmful effects smoking has on the human body, and its God's will that we be in health! So I would say it is not in God's will that we smoke, we are the temple of God, His Holy Spirit dwells inside us Christians. By the grace of God and His love for us, Jesus died for all our sins - past, present, future sins. And when we start to grasp how infinite His grace is, we are set free, that He still loves us despite our shortcomings and bad habits, we are moved by God's unconditional love for us, and we will break free to be in bondage to none - including nicotine! Amen!!!

I'm new here... And I've came here to have a question just like this answered... I know in the Bible, it doesn't say that smoking is a sin... But people I talk to say that it's because they didn't have smoking back then. Which I have recently found out to be false. I've read something about Egyptian bongs (smoking devices)... So I'm just not sure what's the Lords thoughts on this... I smoke, and when I smoke I could sit and read the Bible for hours... (which I have done.) And when I smoke, I rarely feel the need for sexual sins, which the Bible dose mention and says it's wronge... So what would you think about this. I don't smoke inside, or around others... Just when I'm alone, so I'm not harming others, and not damaging anything in the house. Its just something I like to do when I'm alone. So wheat your thoughts on this?

First I would like to welcome you to this forum. All the different forums are great!
Now, My feelings on smoking is that it may not state that smoking didn't exsist B.C. in the bible but, I believe it did and I really don't think that GOD is gonna keep you from heaven for this. My opinion only...
Hope all that you have read here helps you!
GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS!!

I dont think that smoking in itself is a sin it is the addiction, any addiction is a sin, but if you smoke cigarettes as more of a pleasure thing because it does make you feel good when you are stressed, but only when you become addicted and cannot go without it is when it becomes a sin.....

in saying that I dont actually smoke myself but I still stand on the fact that it is ok aslong as you dont get addicted.

Hi,

I stopped smoking four years ago, after realising that the body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. Besides, who wants to kiss an ash-tray? Eeeww!

Health problems like Emphysema and heavy smoking are both ways of denying life. People who are heavy smokers have got a feeling of being unworthy of existing. I've found that scolding people does not change the habit, nor do anti-smoking ads that are shown on tv. As Newton's third law stated: for every force there is always an equal and opposite force.

I think many people smoke as a sign that they feel totally out of control with what is going on in this world, and in fact it is a slow suicide. The truth be known: it is no more immoral to kill yourself quickly than it is to kill yourself slowly.

I believe smoking is a sin, maybe cause that's what i was taught growing up?

The Bible says that our bodies are a temple unto him, you would not want to put anything that is unholy into your temple.

Smoking is dangerous and basically a slow way of killing yourself, knowing this, if you smoke and die from it are you a murderer?

I'm working on quitting myself (mostly cause my daughter doesn't want me to get a "black heart and die") but also because i want my body to be a temple for the Lord the reside in and i don't want to smoke him out! LOL!

I am also dealing with the fact that if you do something to let the devil into your life, it gives him a door to move onto bigger things. Smoking today, drinking tomorrow, crack next week.

I know that sounds a little drastic, but God did not put tobacco here for us to inhale i'm sure, nor did he add all the chemicals that make it so addicting. Cigarettes are something the devil had a hand in. It gives smokes "pleasure" to smoke and we as Christians are not supposed to focus on pleasuring ourselves. We were put here to please God.

We need to be Addicted to Jesus!

Hi, I used to smoke a pack to a pack and half a day...and the reason I smoked was not because I felt unworthy of existence! The reason I smoked, was because I started when I was way to young and immature to know what smoking could do to me. I smoked because I was stressed, I smoked because I was happy, I smoked because I was tired, I smoked because I got up, I smoked because I had 5 more minutes, I smoked, because I was addicted! Not everyone that smokes feels unworthy of existence. Also, one of the things that helped me quit, besides prayer...was those anti-smoke ads. Seeing them over and over...the repetitiveness of what smoking can do constantly in my face, made me think a lot about quitting.
