A very detailed topic to discuse, mainly in "Christianity." So whats your view on secular music. Reason why I posted this in the teen forum its because I want to hear people my AGE views on the subject, not someone in like their 40s. Dont just put down one verse and think that will even be considered a good view, plus dont use verses out of context. I will simply ignore your comments then.

Nothing wrong with listening to good music. But if it is hindering your walk, run away!

This is why I don't listen to secular rap and most secular metal. But I have Mumford and Sons, Styx, Def Leppard, AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Skrillex, Excision, Tune Up, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and many more on my iTunes. There is nothing wrong with it as long as it doesn't make you stumble. Everything is permissable, but not everything is profitable.

Yes, it is not only biblical, but wise as well. However, what do you think about metal that like literally no one can understand unless if you have lyrics? I personally dont bother with what much bands are saying anymore, unless if I was to say it has an influence on me musically and lyric wise.

My distaste for secular rap and most metal is personal conviction. It was making me stumble in my walk, so I stopped listening to it. In hindsight, metal wasn't so bad(that's I said most metal), but secular rap is horrid. Lyrically, musically, its just horrid.

Can you go in more detail?
God does not care one bit if you listen to secular music. Nothing in the Bible indicates that, and I've already had debates with users here who twist the Word of God to fit their agendas, only to go crawling into their "God spoke to my heart" caves.

Why? Can you clarify?
If sounds that go in your ear affect your walk with God, then something's wrong.

This.

hmmm, theres wisdom in your words no doubt. What about bands with un-understaning lyrics? Does it always matter what a band's message is sending?
You're talking about those black metal bands aren't you? If you suspect their music blasphemes God, then out of respect, simply switch their crap off.

I personally dont care for black metal. You sound like a #1 fan though. I wish the vocals didnt vibrate making the song a bad quality recording. I was refering to like grindcore, deathcore, brutal death type bands. A example would be the growing band "Foul Body Autopsy." However, I like the band alloach (even though their more experimental) and the christian white band Extol. Theres others, but overall I dont care for this subgenre, even though your typical guitarists in this genre is very talented.

Highly doubt God cares if you listen to any of those.

Have you actually debated or did you just copy this from someone else on here? Well I like to believe what your saying, but I will have to found out for myself I guess.

Nah, I've debated, it was in August/September. It was about morals, sin and what going in your heart, what comes out and other stuff. The opposition never give good reasons other than "God spoke to my heart" when you bring up scripture.

Oh ok I got you. Well I am in the mood for a pointless moral battle that has nothing to do with the subject, someone bring a religious person in hahah

I find myself listening to generally only Christian Music. It was just kind of a choice when I first came to faith because the music I listened to hindered my growth. I love metal, so I now listen to bands like MyChildren MyBride, For Today, Oh Sleeper, Inhale Exhale, etc. These are all Christian bands and I find some of their songs Awesome! Honestly, the only 'secular' music I listen to is music like trance and dubstep. I love Armin van Buuren, and when there are no words in a lot of the songs, it's kind of hard to say it's secular or Christian. It's all about the meaning I believe, and what somebody said above me about asking those questions is a really good idea! ^_^

I have to agree on the no lyric part.

I see nothing wrong with it... if you're one of those people who just absorb any junk up when it comes to music and movies and believe it or let it influence you, then yes it's bad. But for the listener who doesn't take everything seriously and knows their "limits" or knows whether it's having a bad influence on them I see no harm in it. I listen to a lot of different genre's (except rap, can't stand it) including metal and there's some sketchy stuff there but none of it actually influences me or changes me or my beliefs or what I stand for.
