He is real, but a defeated foe.

If Satan is defeated.. how can he tempt us and put evil thoughts in our heads and put demons in us?

Satan lost the war in the same way that Germany lost the war on D-Day. Just as Germany would fight on to the bitter end, so will Satan. Do not be devieved, he is still very dangerous. Especially to those who think that he is no longer a force to be reckoned with.
