The Christian looks around the room. "Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the professor's brain?" The class breaks out in laughter. The Christian points towards his elderly, crumbling tutor. "Is there anyone here who has ever heard the professor's brain...felt the professor's brain, touched or smelt the professor's brain?" No one appears to have done so.

The Christian shakes his head sadly. "It appears no-one here has had any sensory perception of the professor's brain whatsoever. Well, according to the rules of empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science, the professor has no brain."

This is an example of the fallacious over-simplication these arguments hold. There is empyrical evidence that the professor has a brain: The fact that he is is talking and speaking, and not collapsed in a still heap on the floor. That is empyrical evidence that he posesses a brain, without actually being able to see it.

Again, a flawed argument. Hot and Cold are both relative rather than absolute expressions of temperature. Light and Dark are both relative rather than absolute expressions of brightness. Saying that something is hot implies an unspoken intimation that it holds a temperature higher than the norm, while saying that something is dark implies an unspoken intimation that it is less bright than the norm. Scientists do not measure either heat, coldness, light or darkness. Science does not represent them as dualities, rather as relative expressions along a single absolute scale.

The funny part is that there is a good chance that someone has seen the profesors brain using different types of brain scans. If a student really didn't believe the prof had a brain, they could always ask him for those scans.

Of course, we know that touchable, smellable, etc is not the criteria for science, as there are many things we have not seen dirrectly but we could see their effects on the world.

Ask yourself this: Are you doing this in an honest attempt to Save us, or is there an alterior motive behind your actions. Maybe your real motive is the sin of pride or self-gratification. Ask yourself if Satan is actually laughing at you?

Thanks for bringing that back up. Over in General Apologetics, if I remember correctly, we had quite a hoot over that a while back. Most Christians even agreed the story was just trying to provide comfort and backing to Christians and it was never meant to actually stand up to scrutiny.

Atheists just don't believe that there is a God that cannot be seen or touched. Point blank and period. They do not believe in any God that is associated with any religion or faith. They don't have any belief in any higher power whatsoever.
