Or that sometimes people start a thread like this to watch fireworks?
The word you're looking for is "troll."
Not sure if I mentioned this before, but I had a few friends go to protestant schools to earn degrees in theology. Not a single one came back with their faith intact. I have found the reverse to be true of Orthodoxy -- seems like the more people learn, the less likely they are to leave.
I love how many Orthodox love to put Protestants down as non thinking Christians. Makes me feel extremely great to be viewed as a moron.
I am not about to join a church that will make me refuse to take communion with my own parents.
You know, the "honor your father and mother" thing kinda kept ringing in my ears when I was thinking about drifting toward Orthodoxy.
Also, it's amazing how many Orthodox drifted into Atheism when the Commies seized Russian and Eastern Europe.
Think that would happen in the American South? You know the answer to that one.
Sigh.....so many one true churches to choose from.
Think I'll just stay on my side of the aisle.

I actually respect the Orthodox Church, even though there are parts of it I simply do not understand. However, I am a Christian thanks to my Anglican parents bringing me up in the Christian faith. I am not about to join a church that will make me refuse to take communion with my own parents. And many Catholics are persecuted by the Chinese Communists right now, and many southern Sudanese Christians have a fight on their hands. But their faith lives on because the Holy Spirit dwells in other denominations along with the Orthodox faith. So I guess the answer to the original question on this thread is "no." But to suggest that Protestants are more likely to drift into atheism is also a fable, so your ignorance of the facts is duly noted as well.
Amazing. You keep lumping all Protestants together by saying we believe in ordaining homosexuals. Not all Anglican brances do this. The UMC does not, and has defrocked pastors for attempting to do so. I do not condone that practice.
As for you getting mad at me about the quote you highlighted, I'm sorry but many DID drift in atheism? Why? Because the Bolsheviks played on the anger of the peasantry toward the Russian Orthodox Church, which was accused of catering to the aristocracy. Are people drifting back toward Christianity? Sure. But that does not take away the fact that many people drifting away from Orthodoxy.
Does that mean Orthodoxy produces more atheists? Of course not - that is ludicrous. All denominations have some atheists born out of them. Maybe I should have worded my response differently; I was fuming when, once again, my faith was attacked (which I should expect on an Orthodox board). I wrote that because there was mention of people who love "praise" worship as feeling something only momentarily. That is ludicrous as well. Also, I said "many" drifted away from Orthodoxy, and that is fact. "Many" is not synonymous with "all."
My point - every single Christian denomination, including yours, is not pefect, and is made up of fallible men. Many drift away from Protestant churches - I've read about them on this forum. All denominations are susceptible to losing followers because they are ran by imperfect men. God's kingdom is not of this world, a world devoid of perfection due to Adam's transgression. All we can do is to continue to have faith in His saving grace to get through it.
I guess not...A soft answer turneth away wrath. (We all think that really good advice, right?)
