• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

OCD is not from God, it is a perversion of His creation caused by the sin of mankind.

But that is not to say that He has not allowed this condition in the lives of some of His children (me) in order to produce some eternal good that otherwise would not have or will come to be.

That is what I think. I know it is hard, I have suffered from OCD as long as I can remember, it has morphed many times, but when I became a Christian and it turned to the spiritual in my life my suffering was increased. I even find it hard to pray because I must repeat my prayers so many times in order for them to "feel just right" in OCD speak.

But although I have experienced the confusion, torment and bewilderment of OCD I have also experienced the grace and love of Jesus Christ and I know that the promises in His word are for me. My faith stands on the foundation of the Word of God.

If I looked at my life and the problems I have as grounds for my faith in Him I would be dumbfounded, but I put my trust not in my situation but in the True God and Saviour Jesus Christ and in His word that promises me security in His love.

"All that which the Father giveth me shall come unto me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out." (John 6:37)

He will not send us away from Him, even though we have problems in this life we can know that they are there to work in us a eternal good that we can not yet see or know.

"16Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.
17For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory,
18while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal."
(2 Corinthians 4:16-18)

Just trust in these promises to you by God in His word, apply them to your life and trust that He has it under control and that He will not allow anything in your life that will not ultimately mold you into the person He wants you to be,"our light affliction is but for a moment".

Just remember that His love for you is completely and ultimately displayed in the cross of Jesus Christ and that whenever doubt comes to your mind about His love, remember the blood that was poured out for your soul. God bless, SoS.

Hi,

The way that you can know for sure you are hearing God's voice, is by reading His Word the Bible in context. The way you can know what to do in any given situation is by reasoning about it based on the Scriptures. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says all Scripture is God breathed. It also talks how it thoroughly equips us for EVERY GOOD WORK. If you want to know what to do in any given situation, you need to pray and rely on what the Scriptures tell you. We need to seek God's direction on what we do. Yet, the more we know the Scriptures and the more regularly we are in them the easier it becomes to know what God's will is in the situations that present themselves and the choices we have to make.

Sometimes we have personal decisions to make may be morally neutral like moving somewhere, taking a new job, etc. I think in those situations we should pray for guidance; examine our motives/reasons for the choice, weigh the pros and cons, seek advice, make a decision that is our honest conviction on the matter (in light considering God) and then step out in faith (not fear) in making the decision. A good piece of advice someone once told me is to always make the most spiritually beneficial decision in a situation. Also, if you step out in honest faith in a decision you make after you have searched the Scriptures trying to please God, I doubt God is going to strike you down after you making a decision in faith. Also, God will still love you even if you make an honest mistake, when you thought it was the right decision. In times when you make a mistake don't cower away from God, but come close to Him for help and grace. Try to make decisions in faith, not fear. Romans 10:17 says faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.

God bless you.
