When used to inhibit pregnancy unnecessarily, it's kind of like Quiverfull with training wheels...;)

Such folks are still not sure they can fully trust God with their fertility.

It probably depends on a person's beliefs .... you could almost then say ecological breastfeeding isn't quiverfull either

According to that family with 17 kids, it's not really. She stops breastfeeding at 5 months so she can conceive again. Their name is slipping my mind currently.

I know of women who ecologically breastfeed and still get pregnant (one woman for instance has had at least 2 that I can think of that were within 3 months of having her baby). Some women on the other hand don't even get AF back until after the first year or more.

I am one of those that breastfeeds and still gets pregnant. And there is no way that I would stop breastfeeding ever just to get pregnant. I know so many woman at my church that did that and it took them months to get pregnant. I love breastfeeding too much for that.

I do too, but my point was that some women do choose this as their method of "spacing" because for many women there is no ovulation during that much breastfeeding.... and if they nursed less often ovulation would return..... anyway so some women might use ecological breastfeeding and some women might use NFP to space births because they still ovulate.... I think its really up to their conviction. I think it still counts as quiverfull so long as the NFP is not used to make "unnatural" spacing and when it would be safe and healthy to become pregnant (should it happen... sometimes it doesn't... ) its discontinued. That's IMHO though.

By the way when I say ecological breastfeeding that has very specific rules beyond just breastfeeding. Some women who breastfeed, but space out the feedings or have a baby who sleep through the night are not ecological breastfeeding, just breastfeeding (which is good of course I just wanted to distinguish between the two).

I ECOLOGICALLY BREASTFEED AND STILL GET PREGNANT even my doctor doesn't understand it.
I believe you..... though you didn't specify that in the first post so that's why I explained it.... I have a friend who starts cycling at 3-4 months even with ecological breastfeeding....

I understand it is in some ways very frustrating as you dont really get a break from periods but goes to show I am just one every fertile woman.

I think it should be stated here that even avoiding sex for other reasons, like simply neither being in the mood (on a given day) or geographical separation, isn't deliberate contraception.

I believe God works within the drive He gave us. In our case, He seemed to increase DW's drive when He wanted us to conceive. We didn't have to strive.

I don't think using nfp is quiverfull either. I don't classify myself as quiverfull because there are times where we use NFP to avoid pregnancy for a couple of months (for health reasons). But I like it in here because I think I have a somewhat quiverfull mentality.

We only use NFP when we need to avoid (conceiving would have meant almost certain death for the little one). I'm not a fan of using it with a 'contraception mindset'. Interestingly, when we had to avoid last year God made me infertile (which sucked at the time because I wanted to have a miracle baby;) ), and the first month where we had the go ahead to conceive again I cycled normally and conceived first go. God really knows what He's doing.

^_^ lol I'm borderline quiverfull.

I think this is what happened for us, too... it seems that with each child I was more well... *interested* than I normally am.

I might not fully understand the definition of quiverfull (we do not consider ourselves quiverfull since dh and I were convicted by the Holy Spirit with a similar mindset before even knowing about the movement) but I've always thought that being quiverfull was embracing the blessings as the Lord gives them.

I consider NFP to be a form of birth control... meaning taking control over birth whereas dh and I leave God in control over it.

But that is our own personal conviction on the matter and I don't think it necessarily pertains to quiverfull or not. I think it is likely for a quiverfull minded person to practice NFP, but NOT the other way around if ykwim.

The main scripture used in the quiverfull movement is Psalm 127. The following verses neither talk about control over birth, such as spacing or contraception, but simply has its emphasis on children being a blessing and a reward and that happy is the man who has many.

Psalm 127:3-5
Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate.(NIV)

Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. (KJV)

Just my .02 cents! ;)
