  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

But I'm not sure the admin wants that discussion in here. I can't remeber where I read that or where it's supposed to be.

You need to judge by the motive, not just the action.
And you need to be diligent in so doing.
What can start out as therapeutic recreation can turn into compulsive dependancy.

SHHHH... Don't quote the bible to encourage freedom, that's not what God intended!

Galatians 5:1 Christ set us free for freedoms OWN sake, therefore do not be bound again to a yoke of slavery! (emphasis added)

In either regard if you would like to try Marijuana try it, but if you NEED it, I highly doubt its right before God for you.

Here's a thought. The bible says to obey the laws of the land. Yet what if the state/province says one thing, and the federal-government says another? Also, why was prohibition of alcohol lifted? Was it not lifted because many people chose to ignore certain laws? Ultimately, I feel we must not be mastered by anything, yet what do we say to others, and when do we draw the line of people being thrown in jail? Hmmm. Just some thoughts.

Man made laws d not take the place of God's law or come before them.

If someone tells us to worship a false God, we must keep God's commandments instead.

If someone tells us to kill someone as in outright murder, then we must instead keep God's law.

If he law says we should not speed when we are driving, that law does not contradict God's law so we must obey it.

I agree if you mean obsession/compulsion.
But you need it if you have glaucoma, so even the need is in need of defining in motivational terms.

It was colonial law that required hemp cultivation on 10% of a colonists cropland, because it provided paper (The Constitution is written on hemp paper), lamp oil from the seeds, sailcloth & rope, among other important commodities.
The DuPont family made their fortune growing cotton.
Hemp actualy puts nitrogen INto the soil, unlike cotteon which requires pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers to thrive. Hence the DuPont Chemical industrial giant.
In 1934, just before the Marijana Stamp Act made possesion illegal, a man had invented a machine to quickly and easily process hemp stalks for production ready raw material.
At the same time, J.P.Hearst was inventing/using "yellow journalism" (tabloid style sensationalism) to rant against "Marijuana smoking darkies", meaning Mexicans & Negroes. He was mad at Zappata for nationalizing 800,000 acres of timberland Hearst had owned & planned to turn into newspaper.

Hearst's politicaly inspired race hatred & DuPont's desire to eliminate their only serious competition were joined with the aid of a banker, to push the very first bill of legislation that by-passed ALL congressional comittees, excepting the Ways & Means comittee (bankers) & get passed. I think it's on record that they tried to lie about the medical comittee voicing reservations about outlawing it because it had been around for thousands of years & might have therapeutic effect.

But great caution is advisable, not only because of unjust & inapropriately harsh laws, but because cultivation has vastly improved potency. And even ditch weed that grows abundantly in this area is especialy unsafe because it is being sprayed with something that has formaldyhide in it, and this has caused psychotic reactions and even death.
You can Google "Marijuana in the bible" for some information of arguable validity, and a book that has some of the above information is from Jack Herer, author of the book The Emperor Wears No Clothes, a HISTORICAL record of CANNABIS/HEMP and THE CONSPIRACY against MARIJUANA.

I believe that marijuana has a medicinal purpose as well as other purposes as mentioned in the post before mine. I just think that its medicinal purpose got out of control. Just like with alcohol and cocaine (used for epistaxis). I see it as a natural herb - much like other herbs such as St. John's Wart, ect. I think the intent behind the use is what makes the difference (is it being used for medicinal purposes or for recreational purposes?).

Marijuana is just a plant, and as I recall it was made by God and He said it was good.

The fact is, it is an extremely useful plant and should be used rightly...to include medicine if appropriate and in recreation if done responsibly.

I'd use it for medicine if the laws were more compassionate regarding those with chronic illness.

Marijuana is a controlled substance in most States here in the U.S. and therefore forbidden unless prescribed by a medical doctor. As long as it is illegal then it is not biblical to use it recreationally. We are instructed to abide by the laws of the land unless it interferes with God's laws.

Just my 2 cents. :)

but not in every individual case, DOES contradict & interfere with God's laws.
And the laws aren't so simple. They contradict each other, occaisionaly, esp. with regard to the recent medical exemptions. Recreation is often therapeutic.

There are many things that are perfectly legal that are theraputic.

We are commanded to abstain from all appearances of evil.

The other issue is that it could be a stumbling block for others.

I've been high many, many times, though not in many years now. It ain't really "all that". Bottom line is that it isn't really worth it.

What appears as more evil? To demand someone pay thousands of dollars a month (without insurance my shots are in the $2000/month ange) for a man-made med that increases the risk for cancer and other severe health issues or allowing them to pay a couple of hundred bucks a month to make tea or foods, or yes even smoke, a plant that God made for us that has real medicinal value?

Is keeping a viable med away from those that could truly benefit from it a Christ-like way to treat those with severe chronic illnesses?

Thankfully more and more states are allowing the people to vote in medicinal use laws. Too bad the feds over-run the Contitutional states rights issues in many cases. Even in MM states, it still isn't easy to find a safe and reliable source.

I pray for compassionate laws.

I think it should be o.k. , in some instances as a medicine, yet everyone is different, and it does have the potential for abuse.
Absolutely, and we need to be completely honest with ourselves when we make decisions about such issues. However, I think we should be equally honest with all things...coffee, chocolate, shopping, sex, TV, et al.

All these things are just things and are not evil or good of their own accord. How we use or abuse them is where we come into issues of idolotry, self-control, and sin in general.

I never said that it is evil when used for medicinal purposes.

I said that recreational use might have the appearance of evil and could be a stumbling block for others. It is a controlled substance and is illegal to be in posession of it in most States here in the U.S. and therefore would be wrong to use or even possess.

If it were legal then it would be different.

It could still be damaging, even if legal. I find people who use it regularly, rarely have dreams when they sleep, if at all. Also, it seems that regular use of caffeine, causes more headaches, than not. It's better to feel good, without needing any substance at all, except perhaps food, and water.
