Lee, are Cultists allowed to be mods and have safe havens?

With this new site ownership pushing an aggressive 'Christian only' agenda, I have some understandable concerns about the future of Adventists here at Foru.ms. Tall and Sophia have time and again warned us about certain individuals on staff who are agitating to have SDA's booted from the site and this subforum shut down. As you can see from the above mod quotes, they are now attempting to pressure Lee to do precisely that.

To further complicate things: Tall and Sophia, who have been at the frontlines of interceeding on our behalf, have now officially severed ties with the denomination. This will surely fuel the fire for these hostile individuals who will look at this as verification and substantiation of thier opinion that we are indeed a non-Christian cult.

The future might not be as friendly for us here as we first thought.

As an Evangelical SDA who has battled tirelessly for the better part of 20 years of my life trying drag this organization into mainstream orthodoxy, who has fought bitterly against the cultic elements and ideas that surely permeate this church, this is a hurtful and staggering blow to me.

I have no idea what your post is supposed to mean. If this is true, does this mean that CF will become a heresy hunt ridding the forum of all Adventists. I hope for the sack of all that is right this is not true.

Hmm...it takes a cult to know a cult. Are we going to have the papal inquisition again on this site.

Lastly NE, it's His church, not yours. He's going to lead His church in the direction of His choosing, not yours.

Honestly, I read some of the things some of the traditionals say.. and I start to think that their beleifs wouldn't fall wthin a narrow definition of Christianity.

I am fine putting up with lots of different views within Adventism. But we do need to make clear that their views are not those currently claimed by the SDA church.

I don't think that Lee will rid the site of SDAs. Those who would have wanted to in the past don't really have much influence now. There were a few unfair rules and policies instituted in the old days when there were no SDA mods on staff and thus no one to represent our positions. At the time Tall and I joined staff, they had to make an exception to the eligibility requirements in order to accept us as moderators. And I think a few people's perceptions of Adventists did improve as a result of our time on staff.

Just to be clear, however, even though I no longer consider myself an Adventist, I would still defend your right to call yourselves Christians and would fight against censorship of topics that are important to Adventists (or anyone else, for that matter), if those subjects ever came up again in the staff forums.

The groups that most of the conservative Christians here are concerned about are JWs, Mormons, etc. (which are lumped into the Non-Nicene Congregations category right now. Under the old system, the Nicene Creed was used as the standard for defining who could call themselves Christians. I'm not sure if that will be the case now or not.

I'm curious about the different sub-fora the SDA has created.

Will there be just one forum in which the traditional and progressive groups will be posting? And what will the post requirements be?

It has been ugly over the past few months while there were separate areas. I can only imagine what the Adventist forum will be like if all sides get put in the same sandbox again!

It's my understanding that the sub-forums will remain, but the FSRs that all of the congregational forums and sub-forums have set up will be only guidelines now, rather than rules that are enforced by warnings or infractions. Everyone is under the main rules now.

That wouldn't be a problem. There are Adventist forums available for every known Adventist faction. See the Dmoz list of Seventh-day Adventist chats and forums. I think you would be very comfortable with your Adventist brothers at heavenlysanctuary.com or atomorrow.com.

Hi NightEternal,

I'm a non-SDA Christian, so maybe I don't understand your concerns, but I don't think you need be worried. Certainly, there has been a lot of polemic fired against you by Christians of other denominations, but from what I can tell from the "official beliefs" stickied in your congregational forum, Seventh-Day Adventists, though accepting theologies which myself as a conservative Christian would reject (remnant church, millenialism, etc.), do accept the Nicene Creed and, insofar as CF is concerned, are no less "Christian" than any other denomination on the forum.

Peace,
Nick

I like talking with regular Christian friends here not just Adventists. Thanks for showing me the sites but no thanks. They sound like super fundie web sites to me.

Atomorrow is not a fundie site, but it doesn't seem to be very well-frequented either. I haven't been to the other one that Bourbaki mentioned.

I think it's highly unlikely that SDAs will lose their forum. Most staff members do not see Adventism in the same light as JWs and Mormons, and most of them would not consider Adventism at odds with the beliefs expressed in the Nicene Creed. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Hi I am new here. I am a former SDA and although I do think the SDA Church has some aberrant beliefs I would not go so far as to consider it a non Christian cult.

I left because of 1844 and the Investigative Judgement and am now a Messianic.

I would hope they keep the SDA subforum on here.

Sophia, just so you know, I post on Carm as "Reb". That name was already taken when I tried to register here.

Shalom,

Lebesgue
