Is it wrong to read Father James Martin?

I've read several of his books such as "My Life with the Saints," "Learning How to Pray," "The Abbey" and much more.

I have no problem with them as long as they do not promote the LGBT lifestyle.

What are your thoughts?

No attacking a priest please. Attack his views or arguments, please, if necessary.

I'm not sure it's wrong in a purely academic sense, like "here's what not to believe" ... although I'm sure even a broken clock is right twice a day. He probably hits on some non-LGBT points but he never talks about anything but gay stuff, and on that point he is way, way off-base.

Martin's 'My Life With The Saints' was apparently quite good. But I would wonder, considering what became of him, whether there would be seeds in the supposed good book of the bad fruit that came later. I donno. I ran into the same issue with a book called 'The Same Jesus' by Daniel Helminiak. The book was good, an evaluation of Bernard Lonergan's 'The Way To Nicea'. I was quite influenced by that book. Then he wrote a ho hum book on spiritual development and another on his claims of how the Bible favors homosexuality. He's now suspended from ministry since 1995.

So my question to myself is whether earlier works can contain the seeds of later flaws. Again I donno. But with the great number of wonderful books out there I'd recommend skipping any Martin books.

I personally would not read his books. Mainly because that homosexual LGBTQ spirit is so strong in the world right now. The Bible says even the elect can be fooled. Anything he writes may be influenced from that spirit and have that spirit attached to it even when he's not talking directly about that topic.

I love how you put that! His works containing seed of later flaws and bad fruit. That's another way of saying what I was thinking.:amen:

Another guy I wonder about, on general heretical grounds but not on sexual deviance, is Tertullian. Great information in his works but he ended up a crazy Montanist. His earlier works are useful, but one always wonders.

The worst kind of heretic is the one who, while teaching mostly true Catholic doctrine, adds a word of heresy, like a drop of poison in a cup of water. ... Pope Leo XIII.

13 For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder! For Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15 So it is no great surprise if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will be according to their works. (2 Corinthians 11:13-15)
