Is it wrong to pray for a girlfriend?

I think you guys are confused. The Apostle Paul advises believers to not seek a wife. So when you spend your prayer time petitioning God for a wife you are concerning yourself with your own needs (or wants).

Mat 6:8 ... your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

You should be concerned with the needs of others.

1Co_10:24 Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth.

I think it's fine to pray for a Girlfriend, and you should. I pray for a boyfriend all the time.

If you should not seek your own then this means you shouldn't pray to be healed, or pray for God to help you if you are homeless and so on. Which would be against the bible since you are to pray when in despair. Like wise praying for a spouse is not a sin. Like anything it only becomes an "idol" if you choose to spend your whole life obsessed over it.

Yes Paul does say its better to be single because in terms of God being your focus, married life can make you give less attention to God. Buts its not a sin to marry. If anything Paul says if you are struggling with sexual things that its better to marry. Which is a another topic.

Be careful with what you ask for.

I don't think there is anything wrong with hoping and praying that God will help provide you with a special woman in your life. I have on occasion, although I have largely stopped due to the belief that if being unmarried is God's will for me, I should be prepared to accept that possibility too.

Having so many new romantic relationships often helps to "mask" over loneliness but not for long...

tons of struggles, I am going through depression, alcoholism (binge drinker) Trying to read my bible and pray but that lasts til the weekend comes around. I am currently in college and not doing to well and dont even know what I wanna do in life yet....also yes bad past, dad dont help me, mom is single w 3 boys, my grandma is an alcoholic who would help me if she could but she cant...I am basically on my own in college with no car and still living in the dorms, life is kinda [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] right now. Pray I get better and my life does.

Forgive me Lord for not trusting you to take care of me, I turned to
alcohol to numb the pain and despair that I feel -- I should of turned to
you for all that I need but I didn't, I want to do that now--help me I'm so weak.
Lord, show me how to live for you and uphold your Word in my life.

praying for a girlfriend only. No.

Praying for a future wife. Yes.

Why do I make the distinction? Because if all you want is a fling, then that is what you will get. But it is better to marry than burn with passion. Praying for a wife probably means she is your girlfriend first. No problem, so pray for one.

Yes, i would pray that God will cure your lonliness. It may come in the form of an eventual g/f, or, it could come in the form of platonic female friendships and new friendships of the same sex. It may also come in the form of a new and exciting venture for you...perhaps a new hobbie or finding a great Young Adult Singles Ministry that does alot of neat activities and events. So, just be open for ALL that God has for you along the lines of overcoming lonliness at this season in your life. What i would do immediately though, is to concentrate on serving God and Others so you arent inundated with being lonesome ; youll be amazed at the wellbeing you feel when you serve The Lord every way you can. Make a list of ways you can do that and start today as youre praying for new female friendships to start. No sense in being inactive for Christ while youre waiting, is there ? Regards.

I know for me having a fiance means we are bond servants of each other. It means we can keep each other on track with God. We can help each other and do so much together. In the end that brings me closer to God.

It is not wrong to want to be with the woman that God has chosen for you. Pray for your future wife, and that God would bring you two together at His appointed time. His will be done, and not our own.
