  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is it time to tap Trump on the shoulder?

I wonder if it's mental health so much as his horrible character.
I never thought someone trying to talk tough could be so funny. I'd like to see him channel John Wayne . "Hey Pilgrim, you're next."

Definitely. His narcissism , "Super Ego" babbling, simply destroy whatever "message" he presents. His "id" is ever-jumping into the fray. His "ego" is demolished in the process. There is a war going in in his brain. Self-assertiveness without well-grounded forethought, without solid evidence of what he presents as factual, is more than disquieting. I'm suspecting impeachment or resignation under pressure. He has already cost the Republican Party its position in the 2018 election, along with its majority in the Senate. Disagree with him and get blasphemed. So sad.

.........and I voted for him, in hopes that we would, indeed, drain the swamp. Instead, we have churned it into quicksand.

I am rather amazed. You are the first Trump supporter here that I have seen with buyer's remorse. I was a long time Republican, but I saw through him from the start. Luckily in my state there was no doubt that Hillary would win so I did not have to go so far as to vote for her. But for the first time since my college days I did not vote for a Republican candidate for president.

And yep, the Republicans will be getting the boot from both houses of congress as majority holders in the 2018 elections. The writing is already on the wall. Republicans have had to work hard to keep what were guaranteed safe seats in special elections. They will lose an amazing number of seats that are not safe if they do not find a miracle.

If you were closer by I'd invite you to the potluck summer we have at our church every Sunday night where just near everybody who voted voted for Trump, and many have buyer's remorse. Now, many were never supporters of Trump & thought him a fool, so they haven't had this grand awakening to his incompetency. Many voted for him for the SCOTUS seat. That alone was worthwhile to them at that time, as that seat will far outlast Trump. Now they regret it, as the whole of his presidency is too damaging.

Edit - that was meant to be potluck supper, not summer. Lol.

I believe you. And I think that Trump is the absolute worst thing that ever happened to the Republican party. The Democrats will probably end up celebrating his election.

One thing I love about the Trump phenomenon is how naysayers have always been in a perpetual state of saying "it's the beginning of the end for Donald Trump. This is all going to collapse within the next month."

It's quite amazing to see people in that state for over two years (dating from Donald Trumps announcement that he would be running).

Democrats are leaderless and would never side with Trump, despite some agreement with him on infrastructure. Establishment Republicans want the status quo on trade. Questioning Trump's mental health is what they offer in place of better plans than Trump's.

Strange, I have not noticed any claims of doom for Trump coming in a matter of days. I have always pointed out how long it took Nixon to leave once the writing was on the wall. Trump will not be leaving soon, but the longer he stays in the deeper down he drags the Republican party.

Though I doubt that it will happen due to the numbers game that is setting up in 2018, I don't see any reason to mourn the loss of Republican control of the Congress. They haven't used it for anything so far. What they have done is show that they do not mean what they say when they campaign. Just the way the Democrats showed us that same thing about 8 years ago. The difference being the Democrats said they wouldn't do things they did do while the Republicans said they would do things they will not do.

Trump does' nt need to drag the Republican Party down the Republican Party is doing a bang up job of that all by themselves.

Search for the Trump with the phrase "The Beginning of the End." You'll find results for this phrase being used in every month between now and June 2015. Most of the time this will be paired with the suggestion that he is going to be gone very soon, either by dropping out of the running, getting impeached, or being cut out of all decisions by the rest of the government.

How else can one characterize things like the Republican party refusing to repeal Obamacare, when most of them had campaigned on doing just that for years?

The only way that Donald Trump hurt them in that instance is that he forced them into a situation where they had to demonstrate that their campaign promises were bogus. I'm sure that they would have preferred a democrat in the White House, so that they could shrug and say "it's just not possible for us to do right now."

Well "beginning of the end" is rather vague. The beginning of the end for Nixon was when the Watergate burglars were caught. The beginning of the end for Trump has probably already happened. We will not truly know until more info comes in or is made public.

The beginning of the end is now. The end of the end is in 2024.

If one wants to repeal Obamaccare one needs something superior to replace it. So far the Republican party has come up bone dry with ideas.

They campaigned on simply repealing it for years, and made several show votes for a straight repeal.

No one forced them to do that. If they really wanted to replace it, they could have presented alternatives long before Donald Trump came into office, and smoothly put them into place now.

They didn't, because they never cared about health care beyond using frustration with Obamacare to get some cheap votes. Now that we have President Trump, who is actually serious about fixing the health care system, the Republican establishment was forced to demonstrate that it never cared in the first place. That's on the republicans, not the president. All they got is what they deserved.
