I do not buy CD's (anymore). I do have quite a few DVD's, and Blu-ray discs. Not every movie is offered in the streaming format. I do think there is an advantage with streaming though, because it takes up less physical space.I have looked through the threads on this website and discovered another user just like me who wants to see if it possible to go old school in 2022. I have made a decision to entertain myself by old school forms of entertainment such as DVD and CD. If anyone's interested maybe you can join this journey with me! I'm also considering going without Wi-Fi as well.
You need to read about fair use, it is legal to copy cds and dvds for personal use that includes ripping music and movies. It is not always legal to copy for commercial use though, definitely illegal to copy (pirate) and give copies to others or sell them and illegal to copy and sell your original. I know there are people who buy CDs and DVD, rip them and sell the originals this is considered piracy.Or five years in jail as well. I don't copy or rip any discs even if I own them outright. I think that is a form of copying the disc. I have never copied anything I got for the library. This is a case of how honest a person is in life. Why do they put a copyright warning on every disc and in the front of every movie I have seen? This is because some are dishonest in life and would do it anyway even if they are warned
I only buy physical media and music, I'm not into mp3's or such, I only buy CDs and Vinyl and DVDs.I have looked through the threads on this website and discovered another user just like me who wants to see if it possible to go old school in 2022. I have all my cassettes still every single one of them. Most certainly! I have small collection of DVDs and CDs. I love to have my favorite movies on hand just in case.I even still have cassette tapes!!
So do I, I kept my VCR which still works and my VHS tapes, that I still watch.I still have a small CD collection. And I still collect hard copy movies whenever possible. Though I look for blurays instead of dvds. The picture quality is just so good. I have a few VHS tape movies still, and a VCR to play em.
I have a Record shop near me that sells used vinyl, CD and cassettes, the used CD's which are always in good condition you can buy for about $2-$4 bucks.Well, this is kind of embarrassing for me. I never left that 'old school' CDs and DVDs world that you talk of.
I agree. And owning hard copies is a poke in the eye to those who want us all to 'Own nothing and be happy'. Assuming that they are successful, and manage to fully implement their dystopian vision, I can well imagine that removing access to Spotify and similar services would be one of their sticks that they use to beat the non-compliant.
I think cassette tapes were only really useful for playing music in cars, and other situations where vinyl was impractical. Also good for taping the Top 40 on sunday afternoon, so that you could listen later and fast forward the rubbish songs.
As people switched to digital streaming, I noticed that the price of CDs plummeted. And at the moment there's a surprisingly large number of cheap, and often mint condition, CDs available in charity shops. Many of these cost more than £10 when released, and they are now being sold for a few £s.
The strangest thing is that I've seen used cassette tapes selling for what I consider to be a high price on Ebay. Who on earth is buying these? Is it the hipster types? I just don't get it. CDs and vinyl yes, but not cassette tapes.
And isn't "engaged" people still single?Who posts on a general topic doesn't matter much to me. The criteria of being single doesn't add anything to the discussion.
I think MP3 or other digital formats are a must for people who love playing their own music collection as they offer the ultimate portability along with ease of access plus if you are often searching for music CDs having access to yor database of music helps you be sure you are not skipping on music that you thought you had or buying something that you already have. I've had dozens of times that I saw a CD for $1 or so that I thought I didn't have and found out that I did saving me from buying it. In my early days of buying DVDs I bought the same movie twice more than a few times a year before I printed a list of them and carried it around. When I got my smart phone I just put that list on my phone and although I could make a similar list of CDs I have, trying to also list the songs in a text file would be a task when I can just look up them in my music player app.I only buy physical media and music, I'm not into mp3's or such, I only buy CDs and Vinyl and DVDs.
I'm old school.
I just like physical media where I can hold it in my hand and see the artwork and read the liner notes.I think MP3 or other digital formats are a must for people who love playing their own music collection as they offer the ultimate portability along with ease of access plus if you are often searching for music CDs having access to yor database of music helps you be sure you are not skipping on music that you thought you had or buying something that you already have. I don't miss having to constantly deal with discs trying to pop them out of cases and into disc trays or sliding them into grabbing players like car stereos, all of this takes time, effort, and care while once you rip them and store the discs away you don't need to worry about damaging them, having the stole from vehicles etc.
Yes that is why some like records over CDs and cassettes as they buy album covers to display. I've made sure when I rip CDs I include the front cover art with it to display. In my player app I can look up information about the album. Likewise people can look up tons of info on the internet. As a physical media collector I've found some titles have gone way up in value due to limited production of a title along with no reissue and if you like the title and don't own the physical media then you have to totally rely on digital streaming as in some cases you can't even download/buy the album in digital format. As much as I liked the LP album covers I don't care for vinyl and I'm not rich and own a big house to have room for 400 LPs to store them properly. A CD takes up far less space and weighs a fraction of what a record weighs plus requires almost no maintenance and is a lot more robust.I just like physical media where I can hold it in my hand and see the artwork and read the liner notes.
