You know that passage in the Bible where Paul talks about eating foods sacrificed to idols? That applies to entertainment today. If you feel that it is weakening your faith or causing you to sin in any way, stop listening to it. Maybe you can come back to it someday when your faith is stronger. Otherwise you're fine.

Hence the reason why God said what goes into you does not defile you. It is what comes out of you.

Music, dancing, tattoos, food, and so on cannot defile you. That is placing blame on things and concepts.

I like how Paul puts it.

We are no longer under written rules, but the rulership of the Holy Spirit within our hearts. He will be faithful to convict us and tell us which pathway is the appropriate one. But with the scripture counselling us to think on whatsoever is good and pure and edifying, I would be surprised if the Holy Spirit says there is no problem with it. We are not to love the world, neither the things in the world and great care must be taken, for we have an enemy who is sly and cunning, and very patiently will wear us down, hwarden us to the things of God and soon, we can still retain a form of godliness, but our lives will deny Him.

The enemy has no power over us, unless we place faith in that power.

Too often we give more value to the enemy than it deserves.

Whatever a man places faith into, that he will have. We should place no faith in the enemy in anything it does.

Tune out the secular and tune in the Godly! There are to many kinds of good Christian music available to want to listen to what you already know is harmful!

I like this! I too listen to all types of music, but tend to stay away from hardcore rap. I grew up in the hairband age and still listen to many of those artists. My music taste runs from Disco, classic rock and hairbands through country, and Christian music. I still listen to music such as Metallica and Linkin Park.

Since becoming a Christian I have never felt convicted of the music I listen to. I never let it tell me what to do before, so what will make me now that I am a Christian? Music holds no power over me and never has and never will.

You're going to hear two fairly opposite trains of thought on this I do believe. Be weary of what you're putting in your body/ears, but I find it funny that some people say don't listen to bad music but would watch movies that contain sinful aspects, and there are people that say don't watch hollywood's movies but then listen to suspect music. Just use good judgment. You can listen to secular music and not have it take hold of you and make your head spin around with vomit spewing everywhere like Linda Blair, lol.

I used to live life by the question, "God, how far can I keep my thoughts from you and still be OK?"

Now in everything I try to focus on, "God, how can I be closer to to you, how can I experience your presence more?"

God's been replacing a lot of things in my life as a result: TV, music, topics of conversations, with things that refocus my attention on Him. Not to sound hyper-holy though, I still listen to secular music every once in a great awhile, enjoy good cigars, designing my next tat, etc., but if God wanted to replace those with other pursuits that draw me closer, it wouldn't be an issue, it would just happen.

Listen for the checks by the Holy Spirit, press into God and everything else concerning your freedom in Christ will take care of itself. It's a matter of trust that God doesn't just want what's good for you, he want's what's best for you and when you go along with that trust, you never give up anything of value compared to what He gives you in replace.

That's a very good way of looking at it. Each individual has to do as they feel God is leading them, but not to the point of condemning another fellow believer who does not feel the same convictions (as stated in Romans 14 with the meat-eating issue and other "doubtful things"). The Christian life should not be a matter of "oneupping" each other just because we don't think the same on any given "gray" issue, but rather of uplifting and edifying one another. This doesn't mean we shouldn't speak of our personal convictions for the sake of others who might completely relate in some way or another. Even reasonable and orderly debating with those of somewhat opposing viewpoints has its place, as long as it doesn't go too far. It's just that we should all eventually come to the realization that there comes a time to "agree to disagree", and let God handle each person's life as He sees fit -- because we believers will be stuck together for eternity, and none of the little differences we ever had here on earth will make a shread of difference.

Anyhow, that's only my elaboration, so.... carry on....

Even the tune of a song can alter your mood and outlook in your mind. So frankly, I would say don't listen to it. Plus I never really liked the black Eyed Peas before I was a christian.

Ok I just came across this even though it was started sometime ago. I think many of you make good points. I think the risk we run in not at least being somewhat familiar with todays music, movies, and T.V shows is it makes us unable to relate. How can we relate to the lost if we know nothing about their world? You dont have to immerse yourself but it can help a conversation along if you know whats going on in the world. We have to start where they are in order to lead them to Christ.

I'm one that really enjoys music. Always have. I grew up in the 60's and 70's. I enjoy listening to old classic rock. I play the guitar and that's just my thing. I like to play the old songs. I really don't get into the words at all, it's the music I like. I've tried to get into todays gospel and just can't. I do play a lot of old traditional hymns. I also agree with the one that said how many won't listen to rock but than they'll go watch movies. In the last 20 years movie content is far worse than music.
