I noticed the word conversion came up a few times.

The KJV and the word converted

Mat_18:3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Luk 22:26 But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.
Luk 22:27 For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.
Luk 22:28 Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.
Luk 22:29 And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;
Luk 22:30 That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Luk 22:31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
Luk 22:32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

Act_3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

It is all about the Gospel! The Gospel is Christ!

Religion has developed discipleship into something that is removed from the Gospel rather than a continuation of the Gospel. The Gpsepl doen't "get you saved" and then leave you to be discipled. The Gospel continually teaches you the things of Christ and the more you know of Him the more you seek to be like Him and serve Him. The Gospel teaches you how to live much more than a discipleship program. A discipleship program give you good advice on how to live and act right but the Gospel gives you life and food and strength to live. I don't want the pablum of good advice in discipleship preaching I need and want to feed on the bounty of the Person and work of Christ. If you want to know how to live in this world and do good works all you need is to learn of Christ.

If we are minimizing the Gospel, sure, I agree but I see scripture teaching us that the Gospel changes us. The work of Christ on the cross gives us a new heart with new inclinations and are renewed by the work of Spirit. This isn't a change of degree, from sinful to holiness, but in knowledge of our sinfulness to knowledge of His holiness and our need of it.

This doesn't happened apart from means, from Godly pastors and teachers...even posters on CF. ;-) I've learned a tremendous amount from a fella who use to post on this forum named Ron and from you as well twin. I don't see scripture setting the (means) preaching of the Gospel against the continued preaching of Gospel since they are one and the same.

I'm in agreement with Gary DeMar, though I think it would have helped if he mentioned that the Gospel is #1 priority, it is more important than anything! Without the gospel, the rest is meaningless, we're still dead in sin without hope. He probably should have also mentioned that the Gospel is central to everything. Anyway, interesting discussion.

If I have ever taught you anything it was by accident. ;) My best efforts are nothing but worthless words from the mouth of a worthless man. But in the hands of Him who holds all the purpose of God in His hands...

Christ, the Gospel, is the whole council of God. If we could ever get it in our puny brains, not to mention our hearts, that it is all about Him not about us we would find things much easier in this world.

This is a good quote, “On Christ’s glory I would fix all my thoughts and desires, and the more I see of the glory of Christ, the more the painted beauties of this world will wither in my eyes and I will be more and more crucified to this world. It will become to me like something dead and putrid, impossible for me to enjoy.” - John Owen, The Glory of Christ

Paul says that what he teaches are the commandments of the Lord, he writes that if the brethren will meditate on and do the things paul teaches and does himself that the God of peace shall be with them.

That sounds like good news to me. That sounds like the Gospel. If that is, we accept that what paul teaches is the Gospel, which i do. And Jesus does say if we keep His words that He and the father will make their home in us. So what paul teaches agrees with the Lords teaching

Php 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Php 4:9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
