I found the word saints used in Jude 3. Do you know where else it is used? I found a website that talks of the Old Testament believers and the New Testament saints. But I don't know what religion that is. Each religion has its own customs and bible usage. I find that as I get accustomed to particular customs, I don't mind so much. It is just the initial shock that is difficult, like calling yourselves saints. I would never do it but I would get acclimatized. If you could find the biblical definition of saint(as you mentioned), that would help.

Oh I get it now. Thank you WH

I have known this for some time. Each bible is written according to the customs and usage of that particular religion. In the place of the word "saint(s)" in my bible, is "faithful one(s)". And in someone else's bible it might read something else. Quite personally, having read those excerpts with the word "saints", my interpretation would be that the place is Heaven and the "saints" spoken of would be the angels around God - one passage says that "all the saints around me" ....... that sounds like Heaven to me, not earth. Just my interpretation. This really is just how I see it. I just checked the KJV which I generally refer to because so many people use it, and the word saints is used also. Most interesting.

and in the New American Bible, it is "holy ones"

I supose if you thought about your wife while doing it, and only your wife. It is not a sin

Nope. Its still sin, because it opens the doorway to a place most married men have trouble with: Pornography.

I'm know I'm just asking for trouble here, but for the sake of discussion: what exactly is wrong with viewing pornography? *ducks head to avoid things being thrown at him*

* ducking too*

Nothing, as long as it doesn't hurt anybody including oneself.

Masturbating is not a sin either as long as nobody is being hurt including oneself.

* still ducking *

Somebody could make a case for inciting lust (not just arousal, but true lust--the bad kind), and for the exploitation of the human body.

While I generally agree there, I tend not to get too upset over it.

People will also make the slippery slope/gateway claim--that it is addictive and will draw the person into "harder" porn styles and more and more desperate need for masturbation and perversity, until they can't get off except by boiling children in acid while scourging themselves with barbed wire.

While it is probably true that those people who do need to boil children in acid while scourging themselves with barbed wire probably did start with Playboy, it is also true that all heroin addicts started on milk.

I agree but (I’m taking a good guess) about 99% of most folks are already into some sort of visual pornography while masturbating whether imaginary or real. He may want to use the method of just thinking about his wife as a way to wean himself off the habit.

You know it's very difficult, if not impossible, to suddenly and permanently stop masturbating, especially, if it’s something one has been doing everyday for decades. If he forces himself to just think about his wife then eventually he’ll begin to do it less, because just like having sex with your wife, as time goes on (and we all know this) sex becomes more rare and so will his masturbation. And as one masturbates less and less and develops a new habit of keeping those thoughts out of their mind, the urges become less and less.

Jesus would absolutely spend his time on a computer forum with those who profess His name and discusses issues regarding the salvation of souls.

We know that Jesus was tempted in all the things that we’ve been tempted in. In fact, our frustrations (bills, boring job, nagging wife, cheatin husband, children in trouble, jail, drugs, alcohol, abusive parents, being hated by family members) pale compared to the frustrations and suffering our Lord experienced during His ministry. The experience Christ has with regards to horrible suffering (and we all know he greatly suffered) serves us all well because Jesus, through the Holy Spirit and through those that have been sanctioned, can help us overcome these temptations by giving us sound advice in a Spirit of compassion and love.

And if we all worked with the Living Christ, towards elevating ourselves to conform to His likeness, we would all desire one another even more than we do now. And that tremendous desire for each other translates itself as needing one another.
