  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Is it a bad idea to advertise a church event on Craigslist? I thought it might be a good way to evangelize, but the only affiliation I have with the church is as a church goer. The church I go to is doing a production and the pastor said “We are to save the lost at all cost!” What do you think I should do, or are there other alternatives? I am not ashamed of the gospel in any way, but this might be a good opportunity to reach a bigger audience.

The random church down the street that you have never attended does not have God's authority over you. Identify to what degree the church you do attend is "your church." Are you a frequent "visitor," or are you a "member," or a "supporter?"

To the degree it is your church is the degree to which you should respect their will on the ways in which they want to advertise, and may require you ask them permission to do what you want. If you are clearly just a visitor, then you do not need their permission (assuming they are the kind of church that allows anyone to attend a service, rather than holding gatherings that are more private or invitation-only).

But no matter what, you are still accountable to God. What do you think you should do that would show the most respect God and those in authority that he has put in place? No matter what, do not presume to speak for the church unless someone in authority approves of exactly what you want to share (which means it is not really you speaking for the church).
