Is coffee getting you closer to God?

I mumbled something about coffee in another post and it got me thinking (almost impossible if you don't have a degree :amen: ) about the effects coffee have on the mind.

I am purposely not doing a google search on the actual chemical changes because I'd like to ask what happens to you when you drink too much coffee?

Being an atheist I believe in dancing toothbrushes as much as ghosts, zombies and Gods, but when I drink too much coffee, I see things in the corner of my eyes.

Movement, as if someone is there..but they aren't. I hear noises, but there really are none, and I think people could be watching me, even if they don't have any eyes.

If I were of a particular personality, I could interpret this phenomena as being:
- Work of Satan.
- God watching.
- Angels spying.
- Carico stalking.

But obviously it's not.

My mind has been affected by something as simple as coffee. What other simple things can affect us?
- Late nights?
- Strained computer eyes?
- Financial stress?
- Angry wife?

We are all at the whim of our minds imagination. We may be influenced artificially or we may influence it ourselves.

How much of what is happening is really only in your mind?

How is your mind dealing with your problems?

Coffe brings you closer to God? Well, maybe.. i know it brings me closer to the toilet, for sure.

It would be an interesting area to explore though (the coffee, not the toilet).

I've had several occasions I woke up early to go to work/whatever and drank a cup of coffee just to find out it was saturday or something. Anyway, got to bed again because I was really tired (even after the coffee) and then things got weird:

I've tried a lot of drugs but this was like dreaming with not only my mind awake and chattering through my dreams but also the cats, my girlfirends, the hamster and the rats mind. (Did you know cats DO mind if you look at them while they are ignoring you?)

Really weird but I liked it. To call this closer to God? No, more closer to insanity and beauty.

I fail to see the connection between God and seeing things...

We are all at the whim of our minds imagination.
Why yes we are....including YOU....

Isnt it odd that you find yourself in such a minority... maybe youre one of the few of the truely deluded who cannot see that there is something.....someone beyond.

you are at the whims of your imagination, you know :)

I guess... I don't buy this. It's not enough to be able to observe that I could theoretically be misperceiving. You have to give me a reason to be skeptical of a specific experience, and if I have a pattern of experiences which is consistent whether or not I'm tired, or drunk, or drinking a lot of caffeine, then I'm uninclined to attribute it to one of those states, because it shows up in the control group as well.

I don't see how that follows. Popular and correct are two very different things.

Not even in the same league. I've experienced both spiritual highs and caffeine highs (yes, I accidentally OD'ed on caffeine a couple times), and they aren't even remotely similar.

I am pretty much immune to the effects of caffeine. I can drink coffee before going to bed and still sleep soundly. I average about a pot (12 cups) per day.

Hi all!

I drink 3 mugs of Turkish coffee (beans that have been roasted medium-high & then ground till they're pulverized; the quick way is to add a teaspoonful to a mug & pour in boiling water & sugar; the proper way is to add the coffee to boiling water in a special little pot called a finjan, cook it a bit on the fire & then add sugar) a day. Mmmm!!! (When I'm in the army for my annual stint of reserve duty, I drink much more, for those 23:00-07:00 shifts out on jeep patrol).

Boy, don't you just LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT when scientists tell us that something that we like is actually good for us! See http://content.health.msn.com/content/Article/80/96454.htm!

Be well!

I have found that caffiene in small doses (one cup of coffee is about right for mr) does help you focus better during meditation, high doses make me less able to concentrate though.

If you can start hallucinating (even just weakly) off of coffee, I would avoid robitussin and benadryl, and most other OTCs for that matter, if I were you...
