• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I have a friend who married a nice lady and her mother is Bipolar. She seems to do very well and takes her medicine properly. My question is does this illness pass from one generation to the next? What are the first signs of any problems? Should they have their children checked for the illness and at what age.
Bp has inherited tendecnies is the best summation of research to date. It is possible to skip generations, it is possible in Identical twins for one to have bp and one not. It is not all clearly understood. But be careful in talking with your friend, if he has not asked for help with this question, the input may not be welcome. KNow this is a disease, just like diabetes. It is treatable but it can be challenging to have a relationship. Much depends on the person, and they are a person with FEELINGS who does not desevre to be judged unworthy based on an illness they did not choose to have, and how they are choosing to cope with this disease.

As far as children, they just need to be informed and what, aand go see a doc early with concerns, because early treament is very worthwhile, but don't go looking for ZEBRAS just coz you hear hoofbeats-in other words, be wise and observant. Just like God's word teaches us to be. Don't hestitate to seek help and advocate in the health care system, but do not fret. Live is to precious to waste on unnecessary worry. and believe me, live is precious even when yu struggle with a disease.

Feel free to pm me or send your friends here with questions. I think my migraine today may be making me a little more guarded in my words than i might truly need to be. There is just much hurt I have experienced from well meaning friends trying to "HELP" me when no help was needed.

You sound like a caring friend and I do not wish to discourage that at all. Let your caring help you to be wise in sharing any info that you can!!!

Blessings for being a caring friend! We all need friends who care!
