I would love some other opinions on this one, I myself have been taught yes, it is. Yes I have the scriptual evidence but would like some other Christ centred opinions.

Proverbs 1:2 Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline,
to help them understand the insights of the wise.
3 Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives,
to help them do what is right, just, and fair.
4 These proverbs will give insight to the simple,
knowledge and discernment to the young
.

So Ladies and Gentlemen,
Is "Being Stressed" a Sin?

Luke 12:29
“And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink,
nor have an anxious mind.

Philippians 4:6
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and
supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

Romans 14:23
But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith;
for whatever is not from faith is sin.

Matthew 6:34
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things.
Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Worry, fear, doubt and anxiousness all contribute to what we call
physical stress and are not based in faith but based in doubt.

Stress is the physical expression of the wrong thoughts we have
chosen to constrain our minds with and so we have chosen to make
those wrong thoughts our paradigm to live by.

Here is an example...

The boss threatens us and tells us that something must happen
by a certain time or there will be consequences.

So the wrong way to deal with this is to take upon ourselves
the threat of something that may or may not happen and cause us to worry or
be fearful or anxious over the future when it is very likely with prayer, wisdom and
some effort we can accomplish the requested task without putting ourselves through
all the self imposed mental anguish that can come when we do not live
our lives by God's plan and help and instead choose to go it alone in our own strength
instead of the strength and blessing of the Lord.

There is so much down side to stress on our physical bodies, our mental health
and our spiritual walk with God that it is one of the worse things a person
can allow themselves to be caught up in and yes stress based on
worry, fear, doubt and anxiousness is wrong because it leads us away
from faith and trust in our Heavenly Father and His intentions to bless us
through Christ and instead causes our walk with God to become stunted.

The right way is to pray and ask God for wisdom and His peace
and to ask God to forgive us if we have done anything wrong and to forgive
others for their threats and pressures against us as we ask God
to bless them and give us His favor with our boss knowing that if we do what
is right before God, He will defend us and bless us even if we were fired,
God would turn it into a blessing for us and lead us to an even better position
because our trust is in Him.

Going God's way, the stress drops off and instead of living under the pressures of
fear and doubt of the future or what may or may not happen, instead we have faith in
God as we see Him moving in our lives because faith releases God's hands to
bless us and bring about His plan for our lives.

Stess is the physical result of the opposite of faith because it is based on worry,
fear and doubt while God's way brings about positive results and His PEACE into our lives through
our faith in Him and this faith pleases God and will cause God's blessings to appear in
our lives and build even more faith.

Peace is where God wants us to live and is the opposite of stress.
Faith in God brings His peace and assurance into our lives and then God's hands are untied
to bring more of His blessings into our lives which increases peace and faith and so on ...

Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please Him,
for he who comes to God must believe that He is,
and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

God wants us to walk in His peace and love and not to be moved by
what goes on around us but to place our faith and trust in Him as our loving Father
who will move heaven and earth for those who will trust in Him and His ability to
bless us as we follow His ways and not our ways.

2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of fear,
but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

If we are under stress it is our fault and not from God because if we would stop
what we are doing and thinking and asked Him into the situation,
He would come upon us with peace and give us the wisdom we need to
get through those things that try our souls and give us His blessings and build our faith in Him.

John 20:27
Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands;
and reach your hand here, and put it into My side.
Do not be unbelieving, but believing.”

No. I do not agree with you that being stressed out is nec. a sin. If that were the case Jesus would have been sinning when he said "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

I can't agree with the global statement that stress is sin... because even a wedding/getting married is stressful, but it's considered "good" stress.

How we respond to stressful events is probably more in our control, however, it's not a simple "stop sinning" even if you view it as sin. Just as being tempted is not sin, but if we give in to wrong temptations is.

No ... I don't believe that being "stressed out" is a sin.
Seriously ... are you kidding?
Just about every American who lives in a big city is stressed out these days. And probably a lot of other people too - incl. all the ones who lost their homes due to foreclosures.

However - stress is a bad factor for our mental health.
And bad for our general mental outlook ... and our lives.
Does it distract us from God's purpose - yes it probably does.
So there are good reasons for us to try to find solutions.

The church is going to need to get a lot smarter about this topic.
We are headed for a lot more stress in America.
We have not seen the worst of it yet.

Stress is a symptom, not a sin. Just like a headache is not a sin, but it can be an effect of drunkenness which is a sin. If stress is caused by a worldly pursuit that has become an idol, it may be a consequence of sin. Stress could also be caused by anger or anxiety that has roots in sin.

On the other hand, it can simply be a part of suffering or the trials which we all face. Even Jesus showed signs of acute stress in the garden of Gethsemane. But we should follow His lesson and pray when we are stressed.

Thank you Gideon123, I am not in America but take your word for it. Yes, I believe there could be more teaching on the subject, it being part of our daily lives and all.
God Bless

I've never heard that being stressed is a sin. That would be like saying not leaving the toilet seat up is a sin (well it might be >.>).

Now, stress can lead to sinful things of course. But stress is part of life.

God love you, thanks for the smile
You brighten my day

It is possible to eliminate stress if you want to follow
Christ's teachings and rely on His way of dealing with pressure.

I use to be extremely self stressed but not anymore.

Whenever I catch myself at the beginning of stress I stop and pray
and as I release all the negative thoughts to the Lord and allow
the truth of His word occupy my thoughts as I pray and ask God
to take care of whatever is stressing me out whether people,
situations or self imposed worry or doubt, God gives me His peace.

If you think that stress is normal and should be tolerated then
how can my words or the words of Christ convince you otherwise?
