I have always heard that the crucified thief was saved pre-pentacost and the New Covenant hadn't been put into effect
I have always heard that the martyrs received the baptism of blood.
As far as Uncle Ben on the deathbed, why doesn't someone baptize him there on the bed, ya don't have to be "clergy" to baptize someone...but even there God will provide the baptism.
