  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is AG pre-trib?

I was reading the AG's 16 Fundamental truths

and noticed the sequential order of #s 13, 14 & 15. My post will show them as #s 1, 2 & 3 because when I copied and posted them it wouldn't carry over the original numbers but with that understandingstanding they are in order and I would like to know AG's official doctrine on escotology. Please and thanks :{)
  1. WE BELIEVE...in The Blessed Hope—When Jesus Raptures His Church Prior to His Return to Earth (the second coming). At this future moment in time all believers who have died will rise from their graves and will meet the Lord in the air, and Christians who are alive will be caught up with them, to be with the Lord forever. [1 of 4 cardinal doctrines of the AG]
  2. WE BELIEVE...in The Millennial Reign of Christ when Jesus returns with His saints at His second coming and begins His benevolent rule over earth for 1,000 years. This millennial reign will bring the salvation of national Israel and the establishment of universal peace.
  3. WE BELIEVE...A Final Judgment Will Take Place for those who have rejected Christ. They will be judged for their sin and consigned to eternal punishment in a punishing lake of fire.

Since I didn't get any replys to my thread:idea:I decided to look it up for myself on Wikipedia. The Assemblies of God has a premillennial dispensationalist perspective on the future, including belief in the rapture and a literal earthly millennium.

Does that mean they are pretrib? Those some really big words LOL. God bless the smart people.
After seeing your reply I thought I would go back and reread the Wikipedia write up and I believe I was wrong.
Premillennialism is based upon what is claimed to be a literal interpretation of Revelation 20:1–6 in the New Testament which describes Jesus' coming to the earth and subsequent reign at the end of an apocalyptic period of tribulation

P.S. As you can see I'm not all that smart even when I copy and paste. :o lol

The weight of Scripture supports a pre-Tribulation Rapture. Wherever teaching
about the Second Coming occurs in the New Testament, imminence is underscored. To
interpose other events before the Rapture does violence to such teaching.

This statement is taken from a four page position paper on the A/G website.

"Does the Bible teach that the Rapture will occur before the Tribulation?"

like everything else in "denominational theology":

Yes it does/NO it doesn't/It MIGHT/It definitly doesn't/I don't know.

Simple as that. "Escatology" is just another term for "Rank Speculation".

I tend to lean towards pre-trb. Prior to that I've considered post and mid-trib. It's a secondary issue as far as doctrine goes so it's not something I would avoid or leave a church over. That being said when an end time teaching comes up "from the pulpit" will it be taught from a pre-trib perspective?

It will be in all likelihood. There is some statement in a position paper saying something like the large majority of pastors take the pre-trib stance.
It is not explicitly called for in the 16 Fundamental Truths.
