Is a dog daemon possessed if it rips up a Bible?

I normally don’t bother with the “news.” However, today I was scouring mainstream media headlines for an internationally relevant event when, not to my surprise, I came across the “Ha! Ha! Look at the stupid Christians” article that is a staple to this era’s mainstream media. In this particular case, the headline precisely accused a woman of killing a dog for chewing up a Bible. No, I didn’t bother reading the story, because I have little confidence in a lazy media whose number one, and only, mission is to disgrace Christianity, and because, frankly, life is only so long.

We’re all capable of having a strong emotional attachment to any book. I regretfully physically punished a former pet dog for ripping apart a book that I became enamoured with, containing an amoral and immoral fiction. The book became an important sentimental possession of mine, and I had a snap hostile reaction to its destruction. I now see its destruction as a divinely inspired act of the Lord, and I in no way miss the “evil” book. Unfortunately, my actions may have been a primary factor in the deterioration of the dog’s behaviour, ultimately leading to the dog being put down for attacking someone.

The headline compels us to raise some important questions:

  • Is a dog that chews up a Bible daemon possessed?
  • And if it is, should the dog be destroyed?

To me, the destruction of a Bible is automatically an evil act. This is a broken world in which such things will happen; daemon possession need not be implicated; plus, no one can reliably determine it. Jesus tells us everything we need to know about daemons. They are evil beings existing in another realm, but they can cross into our realm to live inside people or animals. Daemons are not destructible, and it makes no sense to destroy the patient in order to treat the sickness; Jesus neither demonstrates that treatment, nor proposes it.

I doubt that a dog is demon possessed if it chews up a Bible. Dogs love to chew and they don't know the difference between a Bible or a cheap romance novel. (My dog chewed up my copy of Foxes Book of Matyrs when he was a puppy. LOL!)

What is a printed copy of the Bible anyway? I've thrown my old Bibles away when they became tattered and fall apart. What's important is God's Word not the specific paper and black (or red) ink on a bunch of pages. Now to deliberately destroy a Bible as an act of disrespecting God's Word is another issue altogether. That type of action is probably demonically inspired.

My suggestion is to keep the Bible out of the reach of dogs and two year olds (unless you are going to read it to them).

I hear you and agree with you for the most part only I would suggest in future rather than throwing out a Bible you no longer use that you donate it to someone who can use it, regardless of condition. I would say this about any book, but especially a Holy Bible.

Okay - three things.

First of all: It is an error to think that the media's
number one, and only, mission is to disgrace Christianity
The media's number one, but not only, mission in this day and age is to make a profit for its shareholders by delivering customers to their advertisers. Their distant second mission is to provide the free press that is necessary to the preservation of democracy.

Second: No - a dog chewing up a Bible is not a sign that the dog is demonically possessed. You have to try to remember that the dog doesn't know it's a Bible because the dog can't read.

Third: Are you really telling us that you beat a dog for chewing up a book? And that this sort of beating was so common in the dog's life as to be
a primary factor in the deterioration of the dog’s behaviour, ultimately leading to the dog being put down for attacking someone

Seriously - I need you to solemnly promise me, with your hand on a Bible, that you will never ever own a pet again.

Wow. You need to see a counselor. One, the dog chewed a book on its own, not because God told it to. Two, you beat a dog to the point it was psychologically damaged - that's insane. I think you have some mental health issues you need to go have checked on, and I don't mean that as a personal attack but as a medical suggestion.

Revanneosl, I hoped that ambiguous sentence would be read as I intended it to be: “a primary factor in the deterioration of the dog’s behavior, which [the deterioration in the dog’s behavior] ultimately leading to the dog being put down for attacking someone.” I will not comment further on that personal matter. If we can all get off our high horse for a second, we should all agree that we could have strong emotional attachments to objects, enough so that we can turn physically abusive when we are not thinking straight. However, this aspect of people is not the subject of the thread, and I will not discuss it any further.

I wonder, is there any practical difference between a dog that chews up a Bible and a person who claims to be a Christian, but doesn't follow the Bible?

I don't think there is.

Yes. The dog is being a dog, doing what dogs do. The person is just being a hypocrite.
