  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It is just me or am I see more and more irresponsible commericals. In one I just saw a man and wife are telling their children they will live in a deep hole for 100 years for stealing their dessert from the refrigerator. In another Krazy glue is supposedly used to hold together a bungee cord as someone leaps from a bridge. In another clothes detergent commercial a kid is urged to slide down a grassy hill on his belly which in real life could mean he might be impaled on a stick coming out of the ground. What is happening?

Hi G,

I'm going to go with the understanding that you're makiong an attempt at humor here. I've never been concerned that a child might be impaled by a stick sliding on the ground. I'm not so much concerned these days with the 'fake' commercials that sell Krazy Glue or some commercial script telling kids that they're going to live in a hole for 100 years.

The one's that set my meter at kilter are the 100's of drug commericals that now populate the airwaves. We have a name for everything that happens to our bodies and a pill that fixes it if it doesn't kill you first. Then we have men and women strutting around in next to nothing to sell underwear. The days of a camera circling around a mannequin torso to show off a brand of underwear are gone. And of course the drugs that now allow men and women to overcome the natural degeneration of the sexual drive are probably not in keeping with God's desire for people. We are a nation obsessed with sex and all that it entails.

God bless you.
In Christ, Ted

I understand what you are saying about these other commercials also. You think if these other commercials as just funny or silly but I still say they are irresponsible and could cause a kid or person to try the same stupid stunt or cause a kid to have bad dreams about his parents putting him in a hole for 100 years.
