  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Given the number of threads in this forum on the subject of homosexuality and the general Christian stance on this subject. I found when logging in tonight, that I was hit by the following advertisement.
Untitled.jpg

This makes me wonder, what do y'all think of this advertisement being placed? Is this an ethical advertisement to have run on a Christian ran site? Or any site for that matter?

I have in the past viewed and one time used an online date site and based on that experience, i find the majority of them to be meat markets (also based on experiences of trusted friends). As far as it being a gay sight, I haven't the slightest issue with that. I support the majority of gay rights. I do find though that the last thing we need are more "temptations of lust" (as i view them to be a meat market) on the web and especially here.

I see your point. And, to at least a great degree, agree. But I have seen online dating work out as well. But I think it to be much less frequent.

I'm not sure of the question, are you guys saying "gay christian" don't exist? or their should not be a "dating" ads?

gay christians do exist. God has not forbid them to be christians, so unless you want to step in and tell all members here "no gays allowed". then there are gay christians, I for one am.

Easy there! That is not at all what is being said. Gay christians exist and are very much welcomed by God (though sadly not by some churches). The question was about online dating services being shown on this site and the web in general.

No one should ever step in and say "No gays allowed" as Jesus accepted all.

I am proud that you are a gay christian and hope that you use your testimony to help others in your community to come to Christ!

I met my finance on a dating site. It was geared toward the more nerdy types who had trouble finding people with common interests in their area. In my time there, I never saw the place as a "meat market" or anything of the sort. Don't confuse sites like "adultfriendfinder" to sites geared toward finding someone for a relationship.

Exactly! Sorry if my OP seemed to suggest that, as it was not meant to. I simply was pointing out the most ironic one o the two. But to clarify, I mean to say "these types of adverts"[dating sites] not just the "gay dating" one.

There are different sites with different "results". I am glad you someone great. Unfortunately, More sites are geared toward meat market garbage. That being said, does not negate the fact that there are some reputable dating sites.

True, but in today's culture and all, where does one go to meet good people? The bar/club scene is just as much a meat market as any of the sites you are references and I had absolutely no luck with other activities that interested me. Women there usually came with their boyfriends so I was pretty much out of luck without exploring the online scene.

Dating itself is a meat market, don't blame the internet.

Well, as a christian, I would say that it is best to wait upon the Lord. But as for ideas where to meet people...i don't have a clue other than church or through friends.

When I met my fiancee, I was an atheist, so church is out. My friends are even worse with meeting women than I am, so they were out. My only real choice was to go into the vast world of the online and hope to find a good woman.

Lol that is quite a situation! In that case you are certainly more limited (mostly through no fault of your own). Gotta use what you can!

Well, the truth is, people usually find what they want to find. If a guy goes into the Internet to find an easy lay, he'll probably find that. Juts like if he has that goal in going to a club or whatever, he'll find it there. It isn't the medium that's the problem, it's the people. All tools are only as good as the people who hold them.

Exactly.

There is no "nowadays", nothing has actually changed. People like to complain about the way society is going, but we know Socrates was complaining about that nearly 3000 years ago. Things were never better than they are now. On the contrary, we are lucky to live in the age we do. I'm so fed up of people saying "things were better...". What, when blacks were considered subhuman, when women didn't have the vote, when homosexuality was a crime, when all you knew about the world was what you heard from neighbours??!! I think not.

We have never had it as good as we do now. If you're not grateful, you don't deserve it.

...and if you'd like to disagree, feel free to send someone to carry the note on horseback, I'll get it in a few months. Or maybe you'd like to use the internet?

I don't recall the above mentioned complaints. I agree that we have it better now than in the past. I like horseback riding....i'll send the message!

To be fair, land owning white males have had it better, but if they complain then they'll still look like jerks.
