This is nothing but class hatred and class warfare. It is simply angry hurting people being used to accomplish some one else's agenda that will not help them in the least.
In the end, we are where we are because of a fundamental failure of character through our society, at every level. The people have no one to blame but themselves. When the utter blindness and foolishness that has engulfed so many leads us to even worse circumstances, that will also be on the heads of the people.
This is a good example of one of those commonly held nuggets of earthy wisdom which is so boneheadedly wrong that its astounding.
Only people totally devoid of any historical knowledge could ever believe such a lie. Which is probably why it gets such wide acceptance in the US today.
The fact of history is that 99% of the time in 99% of the places, the 99% have been ruled by the 1%.
Furthermore... while the 99% occasionally do rise up against the 1%.. whenever they do this, the previous 1% is ALMOST WITHOUT EXCEPTION simply replaced with a new 1%.
Ironically THE ONLY time and place where this has not been true in the ENTIRE HISTORY OF THE WORLD, is in modern western civilization. Basically just Europe and the US since the 18th century.
Every where else in the world, at every point in history, the 1% have ruled the 99%.
The real irony of course is that here in the one of the few exceptions through out history, the so called 99% (which is really more like the 50%, even if you count all the people who think.. "yea maybe they have a point") are charging headlong down the path of surrendering control to the 1%. They, of course, are too blind, and to ignorant to recognize this fact.
It is only deliberate self-inflicted blindness, or simple ignorance, that can allow socialists and communists to think that if they could only get their way, the 1% would go away.
There has NEVER EVER been either a communist or a socialist country that did not have a 1%. The only real difference is that in those countries, the 99% is worse off (sometimes much worse off) and they have institutionalized barriers to prevent any of the 99% from ever rising above their station.

Protesters took to the streets of New York and Oakland in force last night as anger boiled over after a two tour Iraq veteran was left seriously injured when he was blasted in the face by a police tear gas canister.
War hero Scott Olsen, 24, was hospitalised in a serious condition after he suffered a fractured skull during a march with other protesters in the Californian city on Tuesday night.
Questions were today being asked of how police handled the situation after videos emerged of an officer throwing a gas canister into the crowd after they had rushed to help Mr Olsen, who was on the floor.

Stray factiods of insterest:
The US Marine Corp has an organiztion that is providing security and support for the Occupy movement : OccupyMarines.org
Not in ALL areas Charlie ... And I live in one of the top 10 largest cities in the US ... and they are definitely NOT here !!!
40-60,000 troops will be coming home for Christmas from Iraq to 9.5 % unempolyment, no jobs and families that have been surviving on food stamps for two years. Expect more vets to be members of Occupy as time goes by.
Unemployment is even higher in California, and higher in the area where I live which is well known as a Military Town. So we are "more" than aware of the plight of unemployed vets.
The things is, this "so called 'occupy protest' " hasn't focused on the plight of the veterans. Let alone the horrific nature of suicide rates among returning vets; lack of proper medical care; increased cost of living for their families here at the "home front", etc., .etc.
This "Occupy Protest" didn't have a CLUE as to what they were REALLY protesting against in the beginning (and this went on for quite some time), until they came up with theof "Wall Street Greed".
OR, Has everyone conveniently "forgotten" their "chants" in the beginning weeks: "What we want" ..... "We don't know" "What are We Fighting for" "We're not sure"
Call these Occupy people anything you want but the truth is they are are a varied lot in age and demographic and are highly educated:
I'm sorry, I beg to differ with you. I have see many of the group that took over our downtown Civic Center. Varied - yes, I'll give you that. Highly educated....I seriously disagree with you. Many were drop outs, and had lost their jobs due to the economy; many gravitated there because a few people from the North County area "felt compelled, to bring down a bunch of tents & cots" and some others "brought some food" . . . hence, no need to go to Father Joe's Village. I wouldn't really consider that in the realm of 'highly educated' - just knowing where to go to get some food, hang out, and have a place to crash.

Most have jobs - they just feel raped by the system they had nothing to do with building and that isn't working for them.
Again, I'm sorry, but here at least, "MOST" do not have jobs.
They're not going away: They will likely fade some during the winter (it gets cold) but they already are working with unions and other organizations to cooridnate activites in the Spring. They are planning to be back with a vengence. They are not going away.
The whole concept of protest is to inconvience people, including themselves, to show the depth of there anger and commitment. That's the point. They put themselves in your way, get arrest, get release and do it all over again. Until things change.
Police and govermental violence will only make them stronger. In Oakland they've been back with more people and more depth of feeling every night since the police attacks.
1% percent of the population, even the 1 richest percent, cannot govern the 99% of the rest of the population if that 99% refuses to be govened by them.
How long do you really expect police department who have had their unions crushed, their health care cut, their pensioned stolen and their co-workers laid off to actually do the bidding of the the bosses that did this all to them ? Police are the 99% too.
There is no way that these people are the 99%. I know I am in the 53% and they don't speak for me. And I know several other really poor that they don't speak for. And there's no way that they can have jobs and not be going to them (or be in class at school while rioting). It's just not possible to be in two places at once. The rioters really do have "ratchet" down their feelings of self-importance.

Apparently, you don't know what the term "99%" is refering to.

BTW, this country allows for *peaceful* demonstrations. When the police tell the people that they have to leave so they can clean up and the people refuse to leave, the demonstration is no longer peaceful. Oh, and awhile back, the courts have already decided that sleeping overnight is not "free speech". Can't figure out why the rioters weren't informed.
The rioters seem to think that they are speaking for the rest of us--the 99%--only 1% are the rich and they aren't that (but it sounds like they would want to be which is in violation of the the Commandment about not coveting your neighbors goods.
In other words, the 1% have stripped 99% from their constitutional rights.
See Jim, there's another disagreement. I think that the present admin. with all it's Cronyism (well actually the Cronyism of the last...oh heck, just about all slick, silver-tongued, lying politicians) are stripping us of our rights. The rioters (yes, rioters) are *still* not speaking for me. Let them speak for multi-billionaire, George Soros, super rich Michael Moore, the rich Obama and his Cronies--the rich Pelosi and Reid, the rich thug union bosses, that economic terrorist, the one who has been trying to get people to not pay their mortgages, that's been in and out of the White House, and those people--in reality they are--are the *real* problem. And I think that this riot is being used as a distraction by Obama because he can't stand on his record. Most people are on to him. The polls show it.
They don't speak for me. I'm in the 53%.
