Hey if you want to link this little hippie gathering to the struggles of the African Americans and such then thats fine with me, but I think that's a bit of an insult to those who fought for such noble causes. Lets not forget that there are LEGAL ways to protest what these guys are protesting...they chose the illegal rout, THUS illegal protest.
Yes, but this is the kind of protest that has absolutely 100% no need for use of illegal protesting measures. They have every right to protest...legally.You DO understand that the "noble" civil rights movement used "illegal protest" extensively, right?
Yes, but this is the kind of protest that has absolutely 100% no need
There is a far difference between those who fought for the rights of Blacks compared to the people who have been camping out yelling about corporate greed. Different situations, different scenarios. The fights for african rights had a nessesity for illegal protesting, this cause however does not.
If the Tea Party can protest in a peaceful legal manner, then why cannot this movement? MUST they illegally assemble without a permit? what are they proving by choosing to take the illegal rout? has the Government denied them the right to protest at all? no? Personally I think its just the anti-Authoritarian mindset of the movement, your welcome to explain why they need to assemble themselves illegally rather than legally. Both ways get the same result..only one way is against the law. They must have forgotten to ask you exactly what sort of procedures their protest movement should follow and were justified in using. How silly of them.
And those people are more than welcome to be wrongYou are welcome to your opinion. Obviously, other people disagree with you.

Come out and pay attention to my points rather, than hiding in the shadows and picking at little tid bits that have nothing to do with the real issue. That or say nothing at all, its really this simple.African rights ? They were Black Americans. Your mask is slipping.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me.Your being duped by Wall St. In all movements, the first thing they do is call them names and attempt to discredit them. They did the same to the anti war protestors in the 60's. they called them dirty Hippies, as you recently did, in regards to the Wall st. protestors, so you see, it is old school.
But those Hippies were correct, 50,000 young boys, average age 19 died for those in power. The same is happening in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya.
Ever wonder why the wealthy don't have to pay the ultimate sacrifice ?
Wall street has to a great extent caused the problems we now see in the economy. They were bailed out to the tune of Millions, yet when Wall Street protesters call them on the carpet, they respond by attempting to demean them.
Their message may not yet be clear, but it is developing, and if this country does not want to see what happened in Egypt and various other arab nations, then they should start listening to Main street.
here is an interview with one of the protestors that fox News "forgot" to air. This young man is quite articulate, you might learn something.
Doesn't sound like a dirty hippie to me. He schools the fox reporter.

I am not against the idea that corporations need to have their hands taken out of Government (and vice versa) however I'm not a big fan of the way they are going about it. My argument tho was never really against the movements idea. I think I will end this for the night. Its quite late. I need my beauty sleep
Then Jesus said to his disciples, Truly I tell you, it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God. 25When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astounded and said, Then who can be saved? 26But Jesus looked at them and said, For mortals it is impossible, but for God all things are possible.
It was illegal to camp there without a permit. They where performing an illegal "occupation" and whether there was homeless people there, I'm sure some where. However a good deal of them where not homeless, they where all equipped with cell phones, Cameras, Laptops ect.

Actually the jurry is still out on how he had his skull bashed, its not 100% positive that it was the police at all at this point, but regardless remember this is ONE incident..there where at least 1,000 people at that camp. One guy hurt out of all of that is pretty good if you asked me.Which is not a good reason to bash their skulls in.
I'm all for protesting the banks, if you can manage to do i legally. Illegally assembling on land without a permit, is not a legal way to do it. Occupy Wallstreet in NY has managed to do it legally, there is no excuse for Occupy Oakland.1. You say this in all seriousness after the banks nearly caused the US economy to collapse because they were too greedy?
2. 'African rights?' The average black American citizen hasn't been African for eight generations.
If you want a straight-up debate you need to stop using certain terms.
Like 'African rights' and 'dirty hippies'.
Apart from the fact that it's offensive it makes you sound like you've been holed up in a room since 1952 and have only just discovered the internet.
Stray factiods of insterest:
The US Marine Corp has an organiztion that is providing security and support for the Occupy movement : OccupyMarines.org
40-60,000 troops will be coming home for Christmas from Iraq to 9.5 % unempolyment, no jobs and families that have been surviving on food stamps for two years. Expect more vets to be members of Occupy as time goes by.
Call these Occupy people anything you want but the truth is they are are a varied lot in age and demographic and are highly educated:

Most have jobs - they just feel raped by the system they had nothing to do with building and that isn't working for them.
They're not going away: They will likely fade some during the winter (it gets cold) but they already are working with unions and other organizations to cooridnate activites in the Spring. They are planning to be back with a vengence. They are not going away.
The whole concept of protest is to inconvience people, including themselves, to show the depth of there anger and commitment. That's the point. They put themselves in your way, get arrest, get release and do it all over again. Until things change.
Police and govermental violence will only make them stronger. In Oakland they've been back with more people and more depth of feeling every night since the police attacks.
1% percent of the population, even the 1 richest percent, cannot govern the 99% of the rest of the population if that 99% refuses to be govened by them.
How long do you really expect police department who have had their unions crushed, their health care cut, their pensioned stolen and their co-workers laid off to actually do the bidding of the the bosses that did this all to them ? Police are the 99% too.
1% percent of the population, even the 1 richest percent, cannot govern the 99% of the rest of the population if that 99% refuses to be govened by them.
"They" claim to be THE 99% -- of what ??
