Hi,
My name is Elizabeth Daniels, and I'm a newbie. I'd like to begin by greeting all my brethren in Christ and praying for God's blessings on you and your families. I'm happy to have joined this group, and I look forward to meeting you, getting to know you, and getting involved in the various conversations, especially because I love discussing God's Word and spending time with His people.
I hope you don't mind transparency, but I really don't know what I'm supposed to say in this introduction. I just registered; so, I'm unfamiliar with this forum. In fact, I've never joined any forum before. The closest experience I've had is participating in various FB Christian discussion groups. So, if I mess up, I apologize. Am I supposed to provide a brief bio at this point? Sorry for my ignorance. I'm sure I'm making a great first impression!
If so, here's a little background on myself (in spiritual matters): I'm a born again believer or a sinner saved by grace. The denomination or group I most closely identify with is Reformed Baptists, though I have Arminian Baptist, (conservative) non-denominational, PCA, and other Reformed friends. With some exceptions, I agree with most of the doctrine in both the London Baptist Confession of Faith (1689) and the Westminster Confession of Faith. My favorite pastors/teachers are John MacArthur, Steve Lawson, Paul Washer, R.C. Sproul, A.W. Pink, J.C. Ryle, Spurgeon, the Puritans, etc. I'm also very conservative - both in doctrine and practice. Though I'm Reformed (i.e., agreeing with TULIP and the Five Solas), and I believe that salvation is entirely by God's grace, I believe in a balance and do not espouse Hyper-Calvinism, hyper-grace, antinomianism, easy-believism, cheap grace, etc. Nor do I advocate the opposite extreme of legalism. In line with trying to maintain a balance, I also believe that the following are critical and inseparable: orthodoxy and orthopraxy, justification and sanctification, faith and repentance, law and grace (properly defined and not leaning toward either extreme of legalism or antinomianism). And I believe that true Christians evidence their salvation through spiritual fruit, of which I believe love and humility are very high on the list. Of course, faith, holiness, submitting to Jesus as Lord, justice, honesty, loving and defending God's truth, etc. are also very important. I also believe that studying, understanding, and assenting to Biblical doctrine (i.e., God's truth), as well as living it out in our daily lives, are also essential. In other words, I don't believe that a mere intellectual assent or empty head knowledge without practical application is sufficient.
On a personal level, I'm a homemaker, wife, and mother. In the past, before I was saved, I was a linguist in the Air Force, a math/English tutor, and later a systems engineer in IT at Bank of America. Now, I dedicate much of my time to teaching ESL, being involved in evangelism, and helping with hospitality ministries. In the past, I was a Sunday School teacher for children, and I led a Bible study for young women in a prison ministry. And I was also a member of the Gideons. Finally, in addition to enjoying studying the Bible and theology, I also love travelling, listening to great Christian music, trying out different ethnic foods, searching for and exploring my favorite five "C's": Castles, Caves, Cascades (waterfalls), and Cute Critters; going for nature walks and hikes; and last but not least - Delighting in Delicious, Delectable, and yes, Decadent DESSERTS (my weakness)! (Like the alliteration?
)
So, with that very long novel of an introduction (Sorry - didn't know what you're supposed to say), can anyone please advise me as to whether there are any specific discussion groups or forums which I can join that share similar beliefs to mine or are like-minded? Thank you so much!
With love in Christ,
Elizabeth Daniels
