Interpretation of Genesis 1

How do you understand the seven days of Genesis 1?

Literal 24-hours days.

Otherwise, why would God have made a point of mentioning that He rested on that seventh day, and the because He rested then, we have to keep that day (the sabbath) holy?

It is pleasing to see that "literary device" is far more popular than "Day-Age". (Out of 12 votes, anyway.) Perhaps someone should tell Hugh Ross!

Disclaimer: I respect Hugh Ross (Reasons To Believe) and consider him an ally against YECism, but I think his biblical interpretative principles are just as flawed as those of YECists.

BTW, are there so few votes because people don't care, or is it because people don't have an opinion about this?

I chose Literary Device but the Day-Age thing wouldn't be too hard for me to believe either.

i'm glad you said that, i was reluctant to voice my feelings that he distorts Scripture by trying too hard to fit it into a scientific box. I've read just one or two of his books, painful and hard to finish. not that he isn't trying but i think that the effort is misguided.

I think Day-Age, though I don't find literary device that unreasonable. As long as the theory follows scientific backing I probably will agree.
