CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Don't know~I didn't even know who he was or what Reddit is or anything about him though apparently he was a genius-geek that helped create what I take for granted.

I'm not the most educated on the guy so I can't really say. According to what I read on Reddit, the information he was trying to make public was stolen and that's when the government started giving him grief.

Yeah heard he stole documents from MIT. As the article I read put it, he stole tons of stuff electronically - when you steal, you steal - either by crowbar or electronic means. It sounds like a case of another IT intellectual that thought he was beyond the legal system. However, he apparently suffered from depression, which is very sad, and likely led to the suicide when he was facing about 40 years behind bars.
Quite a few IT people suffer from mental illnesses like depression and things like Asperger syndrome, making them withdraw from society to varying degrees - I guess the brains wiring system (with those conditions) draw people to professions with very technically focussed things. I know several people through various forums with mental issues who are very, very clever in what they do but I guess are withdrawn and let go by society in general. Personally I go down into the depths sometimes as I've had enough brown stuff flung my way in the last few years but, I've managed to drag myself up on each occasion but others are not as fortunate and elect Aaron's way out - very sad.
I think society has failed him and, many others.
