My, my! It is just incredable, the things you can find on the web. For instance, does anyone know that the name of the new pope was prophacied? Yep, Benedict XVI, the name selected by the new pope, was predicted long ago. He is supposed to be the next to the last pope (before the tribulation period begins).

And, there are quite a few other interesting predictions, too. If anyone is interested, they can "google" the name "St. Malachy" (or just Malachy) to get started.

Meanwhile, I would suggest we all keep our wicks trimmed and our lamps full. Even if God is just haveing some fun with these "predictions of men", we as Christians can never be too careful, if you know what I mean....

i'd be interested to know if that is a post hoc explanation of a 'prophecy' or if there is documentation of someone actually saying that the next pope would take that name.

Also I would think there would be a fair deal of accuracy in taking an educated guess. It is no surprise to me that a transition pope would take a conservative name like Benedict (remember that the names have significance)...but that's just me.

I'm a little skeptical of these prophecies.

Even more interesting is if this new pope (I forget his name) knew about the prophecy and decided to go along with it ;)
I have looked briefly at Malachy's prohecies and they are vague enough that I could probably have fulfilled half of them. But, it is interesting that the count of the popes listed in the prophecy does only list this one and one more. That along with other signs of in the world, sure does make it look like the time's a coming... I also am very skeptical about these prophecies, but we should be ready and waiting all the time - by Occupying 'til He comes!

From what I can tell, each prophesy was two or three words long, more of a title than a prophesy per se. Even the idea that this pope was to be called Benedict or be a benedictine was not part of the prophesy for 267, but a tradition among the benedictines themselves, for like 700 years.
