....... of looking at our brother/sister and then basing out prayertime/life upon what we 'think' they do?

Like, as I get to know alot of my brothers/sisters in Christ, I notice they actually give very little, if any time to prayer(even the ones admittadly called as intercessors). Then my mind tells me I don't need to take up so much time/effort in prayer.

God bless,
Jeff

Jeff, none of us pray as we ought but how do you know these people do not spend more time in prayer than, say, you do? Do you actually monitor people’s prayer time?

The world is composed of givers and takers.
The takers may eat better, but the givers sleep better.

If Peter had listened to the other disciples, he would have never gotten out of the boat.

When we compare ourselves to others, we will always struggle. Its better to focus on Christ and take the steps to be like Him.

Like Peter, we may sink from time to time when we lose our focus. But His outstretched hand is only a "yell for help" away.

It's not the amount of hours spent in prayer but the quality of the hours spent.
Prayer is private time between God and each one of us. Spent in conversation and listening. I wouldnt' even answer anyone who asked "How much time do you spend in prayer a day?" It's no ones business but each individuals and God's. It's their own personal relationship.
If we get started looking at the amount of prayers we prayer or verses we read ...that's religion...and God hates religion...He wants hearts that long to spend time with Him for who He is and not what He does. 1 hour a week or 30 chapters a week....stinks to God...because it's religiousity which says...I have to earn Gods' presence or His grace....those are gifts bought and paid for by the Blood of Jesus...there's no other way to get in Gods' presence than through the blood of the Lamb on the Mercy Seat.

When I say I am going to pray for someone I do it now. It has not always been this way, because I really would forget.

There are times I write out lists of names and hold it in my hands as I pray, this helps me not to forget anyone..When I go on fast, I usually use these lists as I pray...and I add to the lists the names of people God brings to my heart.

God's word tells us:

1Th 5:16 Rejoice always,
1Th 5:17 pray without ceasing,
1Th 5:18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

The first time I read this ...and the ump-teen more times I glossed over this verse...thinking...impossible! How does one pray without ceasing...

...then, of course, I beat myself up repeatedly about how little time I actually spent in prayer...(the enemy just loves it when we pound on ourselves...makes his job a whole lot easier)

It wasn't too long ago...the Lord spoke to my heart about it and I realized...prayer isn't only about the time we set aside, in our closets, and pray...

We are to always have a heart of prayer...throughout each and every day....

The Lord should be first and foremost on our hearts and minds as we go about our daily lives...

...continually praising Him....continually giving thanks, continually handing our "things" over to Him. Continually having a heart of compassion for those we encounter and lifting them up to the Lord.

Prayer...to me....isn't always about the words coming from our lips...but about our heart and thoughts going out to to Him. Constant communication with Him. This...to me...is how we pray without ceasing.

Quiet time in prayer is absolutely important...and the more the better....however, I do not believe prayer stops there...

Good post Sis. Chris! Thanks...that helps establish my mind.

Believe me, I am not trying to bring guilt on anyone here, just sharing my heart and my struggle.

Php 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
Php 4:7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

My prayer life used to be HORRIBLE and the tragic thing is that I didn't realize it. I spent (still do) so much time serving in church and studying the bible that I just never thought much about it. I realize now that it was a trick of satan to keep me distracted. I pray alot now and the more I pray, the more I LOVE it!!
