What a dumbed down, misleading "pop" article. Of course antibiotic resistance has been around before man started using them... they were invented by Fungi (or other organisms), and bacteria has been dealing with them since before Lucy! So, you are surprised that the piece mentioned that some were resistant to synthetic drugs? I suppose it did not occur to you that synthetic drugs are often based on natural ones, or that there are general mechanisms of drug resistance? No? How about this...Tell us how I.D. explains this better.... did the Intelligent designer create microbes specifically with resistance to synthetic drugs he/she/it imagined humans would be using billions of years in the future? Please answer this.

It is interesting when it works for you, its evolution. When it works against you, its evolution. What ever you need to do to keep your faith brother.

So, I suppose I.D. can't help us understand microbial antibotic resistance either.... what was it good for again??

He's not saying it works against him - you're the only one saying that. He's saying that you're mistaken and it actually works for him. Just because you don't understand the biology behind antibiotics doesn't mean that you get to dictate how they work.

Also,

1. Weren't you done with this thread?

and

2. Evidence against evolution is still not evidence for ID. And it never will be - if you wait another few weeks, the answer will still be the same.

drug resistant bacteria
That has been a concern from the very beginning of antibiotics. If anything the antibotics have evolved to become more effective. Last time I had an infection my doctor ran a test to make sure he was giving me the antibiotic that was the most effective for what I was fighting off. Of course it was a 5 or 600 dollar test, but they do not care about the cost now a days.

Yep, glancing at the paper, few of the antibiotics were truly synthetic. Beta-lactams, aminoglycosides, tetracyclines, chloramphenicol, clindamycin, streptogramins, novobiocin, and macrolides are all derived from fungi or bacteria.

The authors themselves stated:

"we measured little resistance to the synthetic antibiotics ciprofloxacin and linezolid, while resistance to natural product antibiotics was more prevalent."

This idscience guy either didn't read the paper or has taken to lying for Jesus.

He's basically just stopped responding directly to posts and questions as well. He's got nothing left in the tank but rhetoric and insults at this point. I really would like to know how I.D. explains the article (as flawed as it is) better, but I'm not going to hold my breath...

resistance is a variation. Nothing to do with UCA. ID has no controversy with evolution, just UCA. So, as much as you want to claim it as evidence for UCA, you can't.

1. There is just too much evidence faulting evolution to stay away.

2. Evidence against evolution just shows its wrong. No need to prove anything else to show its wrong. As much as evolutionists like yourself like to change the conversation, still wrong.
Since when is evidence against anything invalid unless you prove something else? It is this kind of logic that keeps UCA alive, gasping but alive.

What I don't have is time for nonsense. Same guys with the same game. You guys run your games and I'll just keep posting the news. If I come across a legitimate comment or question, I will respond. The general viewership is smart enough to figure things out.

Welcome to the "OOPS!" file.
Where periodically I will post retractions of what started out to be world changing finds, sensational headlines and ultimate proofs that evolution works.
"Teeth and ankle bones of the new Egyptian specimen show that the 47-million-year-old Ida, formally called Darwinius masillae, is not in the lineage of early apes and monkeys (haplorhines), but instead belongs to ancestors (adapiforms) of today's lemurs and lorises." (Rex Dalton NATURE, Published online 21 October 2009 | Nature 461, 1040 (2009) | doi:10.1038/4611040a )

Original Propaganda:
Fossil Ida: Extraordinary find is 'missing link' in human evolution
"Perfectly preserved fossil Ida, unveiled in New York today, provides unprecedented insight into our ancestry... Hurum would not reveal what the university museum paid for the fossil, but the original asking price was $1m. He did not see the fossil before buying it – just three photographs, representing a huge gamble.
But it appears to have paid off. "You need an icon or two in a museum to drag people in," said Hurum, "this is our Mona Lisa and it will be our Mona Lisa for the next 100 years."
"This will be the one pictured in the textbooks for the next hundred years," said Dr Jørn Hurum, the palaeontologist from Oslo University's Natural History Museum who assembled the scientific team to study the fossil. "It tells a part of our evolution that's been hidden so far. It's been hidden because the only [other] specimens are so incomplete and so broken there's nothing almost to study."
" (James Randerson, guardian.co.uk, Tuesday 19 May 2009 15.30 BST)

Isn't the blue highlighted sentence interesting. This is what is known as a retroactive realignment of the truth. When evidence appears that fills a previous gap in evolution history, the gap will be admitted. Prior to the find though, gaps will be argued. The real problem now is when the findings are found to be inaccurate but now the gap has been "outed".

How is this evidence against evolution?

It isn't. It is evidence of agenda and ideology pushing. All too often evolution pushers promote and market the hypothesis inspite of what the data is. Fake the evidence or plain misrepresent the evidence to their own ends. The notion of Univresal Common Descent is rife with these false promotions. IDA was studied for a very long time. The scientists saw what they wanted to see, not what was true which is what so often happens.

Common Descenters are in trouble, the idea is failing, the data is not supporting it, so you get these kinds of promotions to keep it alive.

Ok. I'm a bit confused why you had this thread named ID/Evo though.
It seems you're more against common decent.
(Common decent =/= evolution)

Correct. I make a distinction between evolution and Universal Common Ancestry. Most if not all evolutionist don't. So the thread relates to all things evolution and intelligent design. Mutation, adaptation, variation and selection I have no dispute with as previously stated. This is where all the overwhelming evidence is found. UCA has little if any support.

However, mutation and selection lack the power to produce major changes. ie; body plan changes over millions of years of gradualistism.
