A new finding came to light today which, once again, reminded me of why Intelligent Design is not just bad science, but bad theology, too.
A new species of fossil bat was just described in Nature, which, based on comparative anatomy, did not possess the ability to echolocate as living bats do today.
Now, Intelligent Design proponents have been arguing for years that echolocation is undoubtedly evidence for supernatural design, given its obvious complexity:

So what does the existence of a bat incapable of echolocation therefore imply about the supposed Intelligent Designer? Maybe he isn't as intelligent as we thought. Maybe he doesn't even exist! These are the implications that inevitably stem from Intelligent Design theology, further demonstrating the god-of-the-gaps argument that it truly is. As Christians, we should all recognize the danger that ID theology imposes and drop it like a hot potato. We do not need stupid arguments like 'irreducible complexity' to convince us of the Creator's existence.
